The ever-expanding universe of Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault bombards players with choices, particularly when it comes to weaponry. With over twenty unique tools of destruction available, determining which weapon is the best fit for your run is crucial not just for combat effectiveness, but also for intelligent resource management. Upgrading weapons demands rare and valuable materials, and committing these resources to a suboptimal item can be a painful setback. To save you the heartache of a bad upgrade choice, this detailed guide assesses every weapon available in Moonlighter 2 (currently in Early Access) and categorizes them based on objective utility, passive strength, and overall combat advantage. We break down the best guns, melee implements, and ultimate forms so you can prioritize your upgrades and focus on building an arsenal fit for the most challenging vaults.

Moonlighter 2: Weapon Tier List

Understanding the Tier System

This ranking system uses four tiers to categorize the viability and raw power of the 20 available weapons in the current build of Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault. Note that as the game is in Early Access, weapon balance and viability are subject to change.
  • Tier S (Overpowered): The absolute best weapons available to Will. They possess synergy and effects that render them nearly flawless or provide overwhelming advantage.
  • Tier A (Strong & Versatile): Excellent, highly viable weapons that are only a step below Tier S. They have strong perks and clear utility but may possess minor situational downsides.
  • Tier B (Functional & Niche): These weapons are perfectly usable and can get the job done, but their passives are mediocre, situational, or present drawbacks that make them less effective than Tier A or S choices.
  • Tier C (The Old Broom Tier): Weapons that are generally advised against for serious runs due to low utility or missing core functionality.

Tier S: The Apex Armaments

These weapons redefine their category, often turning major drawbacks into combat advantages.

WeaponTypeReason for S-Tier Status
Blo-BeamGunSimply the best gun. Features excellent range, devastating damage output, andallows for upgrades that maximize capacity and minimize reload time. 10/10.
Aetherium HeartLarge SwordIngeniously circumvents the slow speed disadvantage of Large Swords, creating a powerful, rapid-strike weapon. Best melee weapon in the game.
Ultimate SpearSpearSolves the core flaw of the Spear’s Special Attack (requiring stationaryenemies). Its heads now track targets, and if enemies are grouped, theSpearheads bounce between them for massive crowd control.
Ultimate Short SwordShort SwordProvides an overwhelmingly powerful reward: infinite Special Ammo. While the final special finisher hit takes practice, the reward far outweighs the learning curve.

Tier A: Strong, Reliable, and Highly Recommended

These weapons are fantastic alternatives to the S-Tier, featuring strong passive effects that greatly boost combat prowess.

WeaponTypeReason for A-Tier Status
Blo-BlasterGunDelivers exceptional damage at short range, which can be further amplified byupgrades. The only drawback is the loss of effective range againstdistant targets.
The RectifierSpearGives the Spear's Special Attack a crucial aggressive twist. Perfect forplayers who enjoy a fast-paced, in-your-face combat style.
Sun and Moon BalladGauntletsArguably the best Gauntlets. Their passive double-attack effect combinesexceptionally well with any elemental perk, causing damage to escalatedramatically.
Ultimate Large SwordLarge SwordIts passive scaling—especially when combined with high Sharpness buffs or a powerful element—results in immense damage. The Special attack hitsmultiple times for great burst potential.
Everlasting FuryShort SwordSimple yet highly effective: grants a 50% damage buff against bosses. While less useful for clearing trash mobs, the massive boost against high-health targets is invaluable.
Merchant's Large SwordLarge SwordSince maintaining a high Sharpness level is relatively easy, the constantdamage boost provided by this perk is highly reliable and strong.
Ray AxeShort SwordIts effect is useful, but achieving its maximum potential takes a bit moreeffort compared to the high-value perks of other Short Swords, placingit just at the top of A-Tier.

Tier B: Functional but Flawed

These weapons are capable but either suffer from niche passives, unnecessary risk, or simply disappointing "ultimate" perks.

WeaponTypeReason for B-Tier Status
Heartbeat HunterGauntletsGrants double damage, but imposes double damage taken. If you are highlyproficient at dodging, this can be Tier A, but the risk is toodetrimental for players still learning enemy patterns.
Ultimate GauntletsGauntletsDisappointing for an Ultimate Weapon, as its effect is the weakest of the four. Itremains functional with all the Gauntlets' innate strengths but offersno significant advantage.
Blob GunGunA good, overall starting weapon, but it lacks the specialized strengths and exceptional scaling of the Blo-Beam or Blo-Blaster.
The VowLarge SwordIts passive constantly drains Sharpness. While minor in quick fights, theneed to manage this drain makes it significantly worse than Large Swords that reward high Sharpness.
Combat RodSpearOnly slightly better than the worst Spear. Its Special Attack is near useless against mobile or flying regular enemies.
Merchant's Short SwordShort SwordProvides a welcome damage buff for performing Special Finishers, but the general features of Short Swords are outclassed by the specific perks of thehigher-tier options.
Merchant's SpearSpearA fine weapon with good range and decent damage. However, without anyspecific perk, the Spear's baseline Special remains the weakest in thegame.
Merchant's GauntletsGauntletsThe extended Berserk time is helpful, but it's a minimal addition thatpales in comparison to the damage scaling offered by other Gauntlets.

Tier C: The Baseline

WeaponTypeReason for C-Tier Status
Old BroomSpearThe introductory weapon for a reason. It is the weakest option and notablylacks a Special Attack, making boss fights slow and arduous. Only useful for the side quest that requires you to defeat a boss with it.

Upgrade Priority Summary

When investing your valuable materials, prioritize these top options:

  • Blo-Beam (Gun): Best ranged damage and utility.
  • Aetherium Heart (Large Sword): Best melee weapon and excellent flow.
  • Ultimate Spear or Ultimate Short Sword: Provides game-changing mechanics to their respective weapon types.

Focusing your resources on Tier S and A weapons will ensure your runs through The Endless Vault are efficient, powerful, and ultimately successful.
