Setting up your own Astroneer server for multiplayer involves a number of moving parts. This guide will walk you through every step in creating your own server so you can easily share your base with friends.
How to Host A Server in Astroneer?
A number of procedures need to be done in Astroneer in order to correctly host a dedicated server. This will involve downloading files from Steam, so please bear with it. If you want to invite your friends to join your server, here it is.
- First, launch Steam and grab the dedicated server files. To get this started, open up Steam, click on the tab that says Library, then select Tools. Click the "Install" button once you find Astroneer Dedicated Server.
- The next step is finding and editing the.ini files for the dedicated server. After downloading the dedicated server, find the directory to which you saved the files. Once you have entered the installation directory, follow the path: Astroneer Dedicated Server > Astro > Saved > Config > Windows Server. Open the AstroServerSettings.ini and Engine.ini files to make the changes.
- We'll set a port in the Engine.ini file. You can choose any port. Here we use Port 8777. Now, it is time to edit the file Engine.ini and insert this line into the file: [URL]
- Entry point=8777
- You need to confirm that the change is approved by allowing it from the firewall.
- Next, open AstroServerSettings.ini. There are a couple entries in here you can change to configure the server you will be running.
- Following that, feel free to fill in your PublicIP into AstroServerSettings.ini. If you don't know what that is, use this search to find out. Then put it in the file like this: PublicIP=10.10.10.100.
- In the end we'll set a private owner to our server. You can do that by adding these lines into your AstroServerSettings.ini
- This is an example, Steam name is the name of your owner, the ID of the owner is 0 and owner GUID isn't specified.
By performing this last step, you can join your newly set-up private server and start the gameplay process. Later, you would be able to change ownership pretty easily by coming back into the file and updating the Steam name.
