Required / Recommended Equipment and Resources
- Terrain Tool: This tool is used for gathering all kinds of resources, including Clay, of course. Just point it at the ground and fire it up to start collecting Soil.
- Soil Canisters: Containers for storing collected Soil that is later refined into Clay. The canister comes in Small, Medium and Large sizes. While two Small Canisters will work, using a single Medium or Large Canister is best.
- Soil Centrifuge (Optional): Refines Soil into Clay. Crafting requires Compound and Aluminum along with a Large Platform.
Soil Collection:
Soil is the predecessor of Clay and can be found on numerous surfaces. The Terrain Tool will harvest Soil from a ground, underground cavern, or even exposed regions within caves.
Purifying Clay through Soil Centrifuge:
- 1. Collect Soil: Use the Terrain Tool to get the required amount of Soil and fill your Canisters needed.
- 2. Fill the Centrifuge: Place filled Canisters inside the designated slots of the Soil Centrifuge.
- 3. Process Clay: Activate the centrifuge. You'll receive - in return - Clay
Other Source of Clay:
While the Soil Centrifuge is a guaranteed source for obtaining Clay, you will occasionally find reddish-brown, pyramid-shaped clumps of Clay embedded in the surfaces of the planets. This can be collected directly by using your Terrain Tool. This method, however, isn't as effective as using the centrifuge.
Using Clay:
Clay is a major ingredient in crafting many items including:
- PUM-KN Shelter: This shelter type, when built using the Large Shelter, involves the use of one unit each of Clay, Resin, Carbon, and Plastic.
- Ceramic: This material is further processed from Clay within the Smelting Furnace for its use in many other crafting recipes.
