The Mogryph is one of the early bosses in Zelda Echoes of Wisdom. Of course, there is a general strategy for fighting bosses in general in Zelda games that exists for this boss, too. Last but not least, there is the Mogryph-who is at the Gerudo Sanctum Dungeon in Gerudo Desert. Deep inside the Gerudo Sanctum is a big mole-like Mogryph, which can sprout wings and summon giant tornadoes. You would think that it even was impossible to ever find a weak spot to hit the boss, but there really is a way to defeat him in the end.
First phase: Mogryph initiates it by sweeping the waves of sand your way. This is a great time to call up an Echo to join you in combat, as a flying one would do very well here since it can make several hits and dodge the swipes from Mogryph. You can cause further damage when the starts to sink in the sand with Link's Bow, which helps to distract the boss with an Echo.
The Mogryph will circle the arena's sand several times. During this, position yourself behind one of four sculptures in the room, and when the Mogryph is ready to charge you can tell which way it's going because it will finally come to the surface. Position yourself behind a statue so that when he lunges at you, he will instead collide with it, causing him to scream in agony for a time. Voil, your window of opportunity! You can make an attack once enough damage has been inflicted on the Mogryph; it heals and resumes combat.
As you initiate this phase, the Mogryph will transform into wings and start flying upwards. He will then summon giant tornadoes to follow you around the arena. Tornadoes are one of those things that you can't stop, only avoid. You can use the bow that you found earlier in the dungeon to damage the mogryph as he flies around. Stay away from those tornadoes, for me.
His other new move sends him flying through the air only to crash down on the beach below. Want to know where Mogryph's going to land? Just watch the shadow he casts from his flight. Get out of his way now; he's diving to avoid this attack.
Once both of these movements have taken place, the Mogryph will burrow into the sand in preparation of charging once more. Because this phase's onset results in the solid ground becoming quicksand, all of the statues from before have submerged into the quicksand. You will have to quickly summon your own statue Echo to collide with him before you can begin your attacks.
In Gerudo Town, you can go to a store and buy the Gerudo Sandals for 400 Rupees. They'll also prevent you from getting swept away by the swiftsand.
During the second phase, your chance of defeating him depends upon how many times you had hit flying Mogryph. If not, he would get back to his feet, again and again using the sand-swipe movement and strikes during the second phase. Fortunately, he won't do anything new. You can complete the Gerudo Sanctum Dungeon by beating Mogryph when after you render him unconscious a couple more times.
