How to Get the Shocking Stuff Penance in Warhammer 40K Darktide

Penances in Warhammer 40K: Darktide are some of the toughest challenges players can face. Unlike standard achievements, these tasks push players to adapt their playstyles, experiment with different builds, and sometimes rely on teamwork to succeed. One of the most daunting Penances for the Zealot class is Shocking Stuff, which requires precision, strategy, and a bit of luck.
In this guide, we’ll break down the best strategies to complete the Shocking Stuff Penance, including optimal loadouts, mission choices, and key tips to maximize your chances of success.

What is the Shocking Stuff Penance?

The Shocking Stuff Penance tasks Zealot players with killing 40 enemies within 10 seconds while they are stunned by the Zealot’s Blastoom Grenade. The catch? This must be done on Malice difficulty or higher, meaning enemies are tougher and hordes are more relentless.
Since 40 kills in such a short window is no easy feat, players must carefully position themselves, choose the right weapons, and wait for the perfect moment to strike.

Best Missions for Completing Shocking Stuff

While the Penance can technically be completed in any mission, certain maps provide the best opportunities due to their enemy density and spawn mechanics. The top choices are:
  • Archivum Sycorax
  • Power Matrix HL-17-36
  • Excise Vault Spireside-13
  • Smelter Complex

These missions are ideal because they feature final segments where massive hordes of Poxwalkers rush players in tight corridors or choke points. The end-of-mission swarm ensures a high enemy count, making it easier to hit the 40-kill requirement.
For the best results, try running these missions on Auric Damnation with High Intensity modifiers, as this increases enemy numbers significantly. However, only attempt this if you’re confident in your team’s ability to handle the difficulty—otherwise, Heresy or Malice with High Intensity is a safer bet.

Optimal Loadout for Shocking Stuff

Since the Penance requires rapid eliminations, your weapon choice is crucial. The best options are:

  • Flamer – Perfect for burning through tightly packed hordes. Its wide spray ensures maximum damage to stunned enemies.
  • Bolter – High splash damage makes it great for wiping out groups, though it requires precise aiming.

Key Strategy:

  • Wait for a Horde – Let enemies cluster together before throwing your grenade.
  • Aim for Unarmored Foes – Poxwalkers and basic shooters are ideal targets, as armored enemies (like Maulers or Crushers) take longer to kill.
  • Communicate with Your Team – If playing with randoms, let them know you’re going for the Penance so they don’t steal kills.
  • Reward for Completing Shocking Stuff

Successfully finishing this challenge grants the Lower Body piece of the Pious Mendicant’s Vestments, a free cosmetic armor set for the Zealot. To get the full set, you’ll also need to complete the Up Close and Personal Penance, which requires finishing a Malice+ mission without firing a single shot.

    Final Tips for Success

    • Patience is Key – Don’t rush your grenade throw. Wait for the biggest possible group.
    • Positioning Matters – Stand in a spot where enemies funnel toward you (like doorways or narrow hallways).
    • Practice in Lower Difficulties – If struggling, try the strategy on Malice first before moving to Heresy or Damnation.

By following these steps, you’ll conquer the Shocking Stuff Penance and prove your Zealot’s dominance on the battlefield. Good luck, Reject!
