The Sims 2 is a game that has left its mark on a generation of gamers, but for those who are used to the more simplified mechanics of the franchise's more recent games, it can be a little confusing at first. Unlike The Sims 4, where romantic interactions and options for having a baby are more straightforward, The Sims 2 requires players to explore and experiment with the different options available. If you're trying to get your Sims to have a baby in The Sims 2, this guide will explain everything you need to know to make it happen without a hitch.
Prerequisites: Strong Romantic Relationship
Before your Sims can try to have a baby, it's essential that they have a strong romantic relationship. Unlike more recent games, in The Sims 2 you can't just open a romantic interactions tab and select "Try for a Baby" or "WooHoo." Instead, you need to make sure that the two Sims have a high enough romantic relationship. This is achieved through repeated romantic interactions such as flirting, hugging, kissing, or dancing together.
Tip: If the romantic relationship is not high enough, the options to WooHoo or try for a baby will not appear. Make sure both Sims are in love before proceeding.
The Sims 2: How to WooHoo
Step 1: Get a Twin Bed
In order for your Sims to WooHoo or try for a baby, they will need a twin bed. Make sure your home has at least one twin bed available. If you don't have one, you can purchase one in Buy Mode. Twin beds do not allow for these interactions, so this is an essential step.
Step 2: Select the "WooHoo" or "Try for a Baby" Option
Once your Sims have a strong romantic relationship and a twin bed, follow these steps:
- Get both Sims close to the bed: Have both Sims stand near the twin bed. You can have one lie down first and then call the other Sim to join in.
- Select Romantic Interaction: Click on the bed and select a romantic interaction, such as “Hug” or “Kiss.” This will help further increase your romantic relationship.
- Choose “WooHoo” or “Try for Baby”: After a few romantic interactions, the “WooHoo” and “Try for Baby” options will appear. If your goal is for your Sims to have a baby, select “Try for Baby.”
Step 3: Wait for Pregnancy Confirmation
After your Sims have tried to have a baby, you will need to wait approximately 24 in-game hours to find out if the attempt was successful. During this time, the female Sim (or the Sim who can get pregnant, depending on your game settings) will show signs of pregnancy, such as nausea or a change in their silhouette.
Note: If the attempt is not successful, don’t worry. Simply repeat the process after a few in-game hours have passed. Make sure both Sims are in a good mood and have a high romantic relationship to increase the chances of success.
Step 4: Prepare for the Baby's Arrival
Once the pregnancy is confirmed, it's time to prepare for the arrival of the new family member. Here are a few things you can do:
- Buy a crib: You'll need a crib for the baby to sleep in. You can find this in the baby furniture section in shopping mode.
- Prepare the baby's room: If you have the space, consider decorating a special room for the baby. This isn't necessary, but it can add a personalized touch to your home.
- Take care of the pregnant mother: During pregnancy, the pregnant Sim may experience mood swings, nausea, and fatigue. Make sure she gets plenty of rest and nourishment.
Step 5: The Baby's Birth
After three days of pregnancy (in game time), the baby will be born. A message will appear on-screen announcing the birth, and the baby will automatically be placed in the crib. From here, you'll need to care for the baby, feed it, change its diapers, and make sure it's happy.
Tip: Babies in The Sims 2 grow quickly, so enjoy this stage while it lasts. They'll soon become children and start exploring the world on their own.
Additional Tips
- High Relationship Is Key: The higher the romantic relationship between Sims, the higher the chances of success when trying to have a baby.
- Use Cheats If Needed: If you're having a hard time, you can use the cheat boolProp testingCheatsEnabled true to drag the relationship bar to the maximum and make the process easier.
- Explore Other Options: If you don't want to wait for your Sims to have a baby naturally, you can also adopt a child or use the phone to request a baby delivery.
