How to Get Raw Food in The Alters

In The Alters, once you start progressing in the story and introduce your first Alter, you'll discover that there are more sophisticated ways to prepare food than just making "Mush." To access these higher-quality meals, you'll need Raw Food. Here's a concise guide on how to acquire it.

Where to Get Raw Food in The Alters

Obtaining Raw Food involves a two-step process: first, sourcing Organics, and then processing them in a specialized base module.

Step 1: Collect Organics

Find an Organics Deposit: You must first locate an Organics Deposit on the planet's surface. These deposits are typically found near geysers.

• Using your Scanner: Utilize your Polygonal Scanner to find these deposits. You can spam the scan button and place probes in squares and triangles to pinpoint their location. Look for visual cues like blue smoke or a droplet icon on your map. Darker red areas on your scanner's heatmap indicate closer proximity to the vein. Holding down the 'F' button (default) while placing probes can emit a sonar pulse to pinpoint the exact location.

Set Up a Mining Outpost: Once you've located a deposit, switch to Building Mode and place a Mining Outpost on the highlighted circle.

Connect to Base: Connect the Mining Outpost to your main base using Pylons. Each Pylon can be placed up to 40 meters apart.

Start Mining: Interact with the mining outpost to begin extracting Organics. You can assign Alters to the mining outpost to automate this process, ensuring a steady supply.

• Stockpile Organics: Keep an eye on your resource icons at the bottom of the screen or check your storage. You'll want to have a significant stock of Organics, as they are a fundamental resource.
• Travel Pylon: Consider placing a Travel Pylon near your Organics outpost for quick fast travel whenever needed.

Step 2: Create Raw Food in the Greenhouse

Build a Greenhouse: Once you have a good amount of Organics, you'll need to construct a Greenhouse module within your base.

• Cost: The Greenhouse costs 40 Metals and 20 Rapidium.
• Space Requirement: It requires a 1x8 space, so you might need to rearrange your base layout to accommodate it.

Work the Greenhouse: After building and crafting the Greenhouse, interact with it.

• Convert Organics to Raw Food: Inside the Greenhouse, you can convert Organics into Raw Food. A package of 10 Raw Food requires 20 Organics and takes 2 hours of refinement time (or 16 minutes per package if we consider it's a bundle of 10, as mentioned in the source).
• Assign Alters: The process of producing Raw Food can be time-consuming. Luckily, youcan assign Alters to work in the Greenhouse to automate and speed upthis task. The Botanist Alter is particularly efficient at this. However, especially early in your playthrough, you may need to personally oversee and work the Greenhouse to quickly stockpile RawFood.

Once you have a reliable supply of Raw Food, you can then use it in the Kitchen module to cook High-Quality Meals. These meals are crucial forsustaining your Alters, improving their morale and happiness, andgenerally ensuring their well-being.
