Getting Started: Unlocking Your Fishing Rod

You won't have to wait long to begin your fishing adventures. The fishing rod is unlocked in the early hours of the game during the Finding Your Feet quest. As you search for the Old Book of Rules, you will be directed to speak with Old Noakes. He won't have information on the book, but he will offer to teach you the fundamentals of fishing instead.After a brief tutorial, he will give you a temporary rod and take you to Old Ruby's Pond. To officially unlock the fishing rod and be able to use it anytime, you must successfully catch three fish at this location. Once you do, the rod will be permanently added to your inventory.

Fishing Mechanics and Rod Upgrades

Once you have your rod, the process of fishing is straightforward:

Casting Your Line: Approach an unlocked fishing spot and equip your rod. Use the button prompt to cast your line into the water.

The Hook: Wait for a fish to bite. When a fish is hooked, you will need to engage in a mini-game to reel it in.

The Reel: A tension meter will appear on the screen. Your goal is to keep theline tension within the green zone to successfully reel the fish in. Ifyou pull too hard, the line will turn red and could snap, causing thefish to get away. If you don't pull hard enough, the fish will escape.

To make fishing easier and to catch rarer species, you will need to upgrade your rod. This is tied to the Fishing Club, which you must first unlock by completing the Restore the Fishing Club quest. By catching and donating various fish to the club, you willlevel it up, which in turn unlocks better, higher-tier fishing rods.
