How to Get Chickens in Tales of the Shire

In Tales of the Shire, living the perfect Hobbit life involves foraging, fishing, and, of course, farming. While you start your farm with the ability to grow crops, you can also expand your homestead by raising chickens, which will provide you with a steady supply of eggs for cooking.This guide will explain how to get chickens, how to care for them, and what benefits they bring to your garden.

Tales of the Shire: How to Get Chickens

To get your first chicken, you must first become friends with a specific NPC: Farmer Cotton.

Raise Friendship with Farmer Cotton: Every named resident in Bywater has a friendship meter. You can raise your friendship with Farmer Cotton by inviting him to Shared Meals.

Invite to Shared Meals: Go to your Writing Desk, select "Start Shared Meal," and invite Farmer Cotton. The quality of the ingredients you use and whether you fulfill his daily craving will determine how quickly your friendship level increases. It typically takes about 2 to 4 Shared Meals to reach the necessary level.

Receive the Gift: Once you reach Friendship Level 3 with Farmer Cotton, check your mail the next day. He will send you a letter asking you to meet him.

Talk to Farmer Cotton: Find and speak with Farmer Cotton. After a short dialogue, he will give you your very first chicken, which will immediately appear in your garden along with a feed trough.

Get More Chickens: As you continue to raise your friendship with Farmer Cotton (and his son, Young Tom), you can get up to a maximum of four chickens for your farm.

How to Feed Chickens and Get Eggs

To get chickens to produce eggs, you must feed them daily.

• Feeding the Chickens: Chickens can eat Grains, Seeds, or Nuts. You can use any type of seed you have, or check the attributes offoraged items and crops to see if they count as grains or nuts.
• The Trough: The chicken's food trough will appear in your garden. You can move itsposition if you wish. To feed your chickens, interact with the troughand place a food item from your backpack into it.
• Optimal Feeding: Each chicken only needs one food item per day to produce an egg. You can place up to four items in the trough at once, but overfeeding a chicken will not result in more eggs.
• Egg Production: The day after you feed a chicken, it will lay an egg somewhere in yourgarden. The more consecutive days you feed a chicken, the higher thequality of the eggs it will produce.
• The Consequences of Neglect: If you miss a day of feeding, the chicken may become annoyed. It willstop producing eggs for a few days and may even chase you around yourgarden until it calms down.

Raising chickens is anexcellent way to expand your farming capabilities and ensure you have aconstant supply of eggs for cooking delicious Hobbit meals.
