How to Place Furniture in Tales of the Shire

Decorating your home is a key part of the cozy life in Tales of the Shire. As you settle into Bywater, you can transform your hobbit hole into a personalized, warm, and inviting space. The game features a flexible, grid-free decoration system that allows you to place furniture and decor wherever you like.Here is a guide to the home decoration system in Tales of the Shire, including how to enter Decoration mode, place and move furniture, and store items.

Tales of the Shire Decoration & Furniture Customization, Explained

You can acquire new furniture in a number of ways. You can purchase it from merchants like Willow Took, the village's carpenter, at her workshop located southeast of the Cotton Farm, or Fosco Burrows, who sells decorations from his shop in the Village Square. Additionally, raising your Friendship level with various hobbits often rewards you with new furniture and decor.

How to Open Home Decoration Mode

To start decorating your hobbit hole:

Walk into any room of your home.

Hold down the select button on your controller (the left button between the analog sticks).

A pop-up will appear explaining the decoration system, and you will enter Home Decoration mode.

To exit this mode, simply hold down the select button again.

How to Place & Move Furniture

The Home Decoration mode features a grid-free placement system, giving you complete freedom to arrange your furniture as you see fit.

• Placing New Furniture:

• While in Home Decoration mode, press Y or △ to access your Storage.
• In the Storage menu, navigate to the Furniture or Decorations tabs.
• Select the item you wish to place.
• You will exit the menu, and the item will appear in front of you. Move your camera to place it where you desire.
• Press A or X to confirm the placement.
• Moving Existing Furniture:

• In Home Decoration mode, move your reticle over an existing piece of furniture until it glows blue.
• Press A or X to select it.
• Move the item to its new location and press A or X again to confirm.
• Rotating Furniture:
  • To rotate an item, press RT/LT or R2/L2 while you have it selected.
  • You can press X or the square button to enable Rotation Snapping, which will make the item snap to pre-determined rotation points.

How to Store Furniture

If you want to put away a piece of furniture you have already placed, you can store it back in your inventory.

Open Home Decoration mode.

Move your reticle over the furniture you want to store until it glows blue.

Press ↓ on the D-pad. The item will automatically be added back to your Storage.
