This guide explains how to unlock all playable characters in Sworn.
Sworn features four playable characters: Vigilante, Monk, Rook, and Specter. You begin the game with only Vigilante unlocked. Unlocking the other characters requires playing as the previous character in the unlock chain, clearing rooms, and spending Fairy Embers.
Unlock Order and Requirements:
The characters unlock in a specific order:
Vigilante: Unlocked by default. Monk: - Clear 15 Rooms as Vigilante.
- Spend 20 Fairy Embers.
Rook: - Clear 15 Rooms as Monk.
- Spend 30 Fairy Embers.
Specter: - Clear 15 Rooms as Rook.
- Spend 40 Fairy Embers.
How to Unlock:
Play and Clear Rooms: Play as the currently unlocked character and clear rooms. Even dying after clearing a single room counts towards the 15-room requirement. You do not need to progress to any specific point in the story.Gather Fairy Embers: Collect Fairy Embers as you play.Return to Carmarthen Tower: Once you've met the room and Ember requirements, return to Carmarthen Tower (the game's hub).Interact with Statues: Interact with the Character Statues near the spawn point to unlock the next character in the sequence.Character Switching:
After unlocking a character, you can switch between them in Carmarthen Tower. Interact with the statue of the desired character to start a run with them.
Progression and Upgrades:
- Basic Equipment: Unlocked characters start with only basic weapons and spells.
- Upgrades Carry Over: Upgrades from The Source and the Enhancements shop are active across all characters.

- No Story Progression Required: Clearing rooms and gathering Embers are the only requirements.
- Hub Interaction: You must return to Carmarthen Tower and interact with the statues to unlock characters.
- No "Best Class": Each character has a unique playstyle, encouraging players to try them all.
- Upgrades are Shared: Upgrades you earn will benefit all unlocked characters.
