Learn how to acquire the Megalomaniac Diamond in Path of Exile 2. This guide covers farming strategies, drop locations, and everything you need to know to obtain this valuable item.
The Megalomaniac Diamond is a highly sought-after jewel in Path of Exile 2, offering the potential to significantly enhance character builds by automatically allocating Notable passive skills. However, acquiring this powerful jewel is a challenging endeavor, requiring both skill and a bit of luck. This guide will explain how to obtain a Megalomaniac Diamond and how it functions.
Path of Exile 2: How to Get Megalomaniac Diamond
The Megalomaniac Diamond is an exclusive drop from Kosis, the Revelation. This is the pinnacle boss variant of Kosis, encountered in the Delirium encounter, and only at difficulty level 4. Regular versions of Kosis will not drop this jewel.
1. The Simulacrum:
To fight Kosis, the Revelation, you'll need The Simulacrum. This item is used at the Realmgate in the Atlas. There are two ways to obtain a Simulacrum:
- Farming: Combine 300 Simulacrum Splinters. These splinters are acquired by farming Delirium-instilled Waystones and Delirium nodes within maps.
- Trading: Purchase a Simulacrum from other players through the in-game trade system or a third-party trading website.
2. Increasing Simulacrum Difficulty:
It's crucial to understand that Kosis, the Revelation (the pinnacle variant), does not spawn in regular Delirium maps. You must use The Simulacrum at difficulty level +4 to have a chance at encountering him and, consequently, obtaining the Megalomaniac Diamond.
Understanding the Megalomaniac Diamond's Function
The Megalomaniac Diamond's power lies in its ability to automatically allocate Notable passive skills.
- Automatic Allocation: A Megalomaniac Diamond has 2-3 modifiers. Each modifier corresponds to a specific Notable passive skill. When the jewel is socketed, these Notable skills are automatically allocated on your passive skill tree, without requiring you to path to them. This is a huge benefit, freeing up passive skill points for other uses.
- Similar to Anointing: The effect is similar to Anointing an Amulet, but a Megalomaniac Diamond can allocate multiple Notable skills simultaneously.
- One Jewel Limit: You can only have one Megalomaniac Diamond active in your passive skill tree at any given time.
- Corrupted on Spawn: Megalomaniac Diamonds are always corrupted when they drop, just like the From Nothing Diamond. This means you cannot use a Vaal Orb on them to change their modifiers.
The Challenge of Obtaining a Useful Megalomaniac Diamond
There are hundreds of Notable passive skills in Path of Exile 2. Because Megalomaniac Diamonds are corrupted on drop and cannot be modified, the chances of finding one with the exact Notable skills you need for your build are extremely low. This makes trading with other players the most realistic way to acquire a useful Megalomaniac Diamond.
Understanding Passive Skill Node Types
To fully grasp the value of the Megalomaniac Diamond, it's important to understand the different types of passive skill nodes:
- Small Nodes: These are the smallest nodes on the tree, with a brown border.
- Notables: These are larger nodes, also with a brown border. They represent significant passive skills and are the target of the Megalomaniac Diamond's allocation.
- Keystones: These are the largest nodes, with a golden border. They often drastically alter character mechanics.
The sheer number of Notable skills makes obtaining the perfect Megalomaniac Diamond through farming a very difficult task. Trading with other players who have already found these jewels is the most efficient way to acquire the specific combination of Notable skills you need.
