Overwatch 2 Junkrat guide - tips, strategies and abilities - Ultimate Guide

Junkrat is one of the most interesting personalities on the Overwatch roster. He's a crazy junker from Australia with a bit of an explosive obsession. However, that's not all, because he also likes robbing people. Playing on Junkrat can be very risky. Here's a breakdown of how you should play Junkrat in Overwatch 2.
 

All of Junkrat's abilities

 
Like all DPS characters, Junkrat has increased movement speed.

He has an additional passive in which he does not deal explosive damage to himself and drops bundles of grenades that explode upon his death.

Concussion Mine (Ability 1)

Throws a mine that throws you or your enemies in the air. Has two charges and can be destroyed by enemies.
 

Steel Trap (Ability 2)

Sets a trap that snaps onto enemies who step on it. Binds them to a small area where they can move slowly until they break free. Enemies can destroy it before it activates.

Rip-Tire (Ultimates)

Take control of a RIP-tire that drives off and explodes at your command. It can climb walls, but can also be destroyed by enemies.
 
Junkrat's only form of fire is a grenade launcher. He throws grenades that bounce and explode on contact with enemies.
 

How to play on Junkrat

Junkrat plays the same way he did in the first Overwatch. He can do a lot of damage quickly by shooting grenades, which is great for shields and enemies with high health. The hardest part with him is predicting where enemies are moving so you can guide them properly with your fire, but combining a grenade shot with a mine blast is a great way to kill 200 health enemies at a time. Mines are also your only escape strategy when you are in trouble. Throw it underneath you and blow yourself to safety when someone gets a height advantage or starts hitting you from a distance. Always keep at least one charger handy in case you need it.
 
Rip-Tire is a very simple ulta. When using it, be sure to hide the Rip-Tire in a hard-to-reach place so the enemy doesn't kill you while you're controlling it. When detecting enemies, move and jump unpredictably because the Rip-Tire has little health and is easy to destroy. It is always easiest to kill when you are coming from above.
 

Good teammates to play with JunkRat

Junkrat doesn't necessarily have any special teammates that he stands out with. You can deal a ton of damage quickly to enemies trapped by Zarya's Graviton Surge Ultimate, but just about any DPS can do it. Who your teammates play for doesn't often affect your success with the Junkrat, but the situations in which you choose to use it will make a difference. All counters and who to counter with the Junkrat

The biggest counter to the Junkrat are enemies who can move vertically quickly, so anyone who can fly or has another ability gets up quickly. Farrah, Echo, Genji, and Sojourn stand out here. Anyone who can outrun him, like Fatal Widow, Soldier: 76, Cassidy, Hanzo, Ana, and Torbjorn's turret, also come to mind. Turboswine can also easily outlast him in one-on-one combat, and Junkrat's blasts will quickly charge Zarya's barriers, making her much stronger.
