Where To Find Filler Metal in NieR Automata?
One of the materials you will be looking for in the overworld is Filler Metal. If you want any earlier in the game, be prepared for a long walk, though. Even though it's a little pricey, purchasing Filler Metal later in the game is the easier option if you have the cash.
Filler Metal is a rare material found at certain spawn points in the Factory. Filler Metal is the rarest of these to spawn, and where exactly it does will be different with each pass through the factory. When revisiting the factory for the purposes of the main story you will be granted fast travel back to the Factory: Hanger access point, which is a fine chance to get your bearings since its already set up for you to explore.
No matter how big of an improvement in movement speed you get, you'll still never be able to successfully farm Filler Metal. Your best bet is just to dash around the plant and get whatever spawned randomly. Buying something is going to be the easiest way to get a lot.
Filler Metal can only be purchased from the Shopkeeper Machine in the Amusement Park, but that requires having gotten one of the game's ending, meaning after all three playthroughs. Using Chapter Select to return to this Shopkeeper after completing the game shows it has updated inventory that includes Filler Metal, which costs 11,250 G a piece.
Although it may seem a steep price, this is actually a more reliable method than doing the Factory over and over again. Also, your enemies will not get near full level, which means you need to upgrade your Pods with Filler Metal in order to defeat them and win the game.
