Lagiacrus, the highly anticipated Leviathan, has indeed made its grand return in Monster Hunter Wilds as part of Title Update 2 (TU2). While not as dominant as the Apex Leviathan, Jin Dahaad, Lagiacrus still presents a significant challenge, being a step up in difficulty from most other regular High Rank monsters, and even surpassing Mizutsune in some aspects. It retains many of its classic attacks but introduces new combos and a distinctive "underwater sequence" that adds depth to the encounter.Here's a comprehensive guide to help you easily defeat Lagiacrus in Monster Hunter Wilds TU2.

Monster Hunter Wilds: How To Defeat Lagiacrus

Overview of Lagiacrus in Monster Hunter Wilds

Lagiacrus is a Leviathan-class monster, designed as an endgame encounter. Like other Leviathans, it boasts impressive agility and a reliance on elemental attacks. Its unique back scales allow it to generate and discharge electricity, which it uses for both offensive maneuvers and to repel hunters. In its enraged state, Lagiacrus can unleash powerful lightning strikes in front of it and utilize lightning AOE (area-of-effect) as a counterattack. While capable of dealing substantial physical damage, its primary threat comes from its lightning-based assaults, which can also be deployed underwater.Beyond its lightning attacks, Lagiacrus has a few standard physical combos that are generally easier to avoid and open to counterattacks. In Monster Hunter Wilds, Lagiacrus introduces two new "gimmicks":

Focus Strike Vulnerability: Similar to Arkveld, when Lagiacrus charges its elemental combos, it becomes briefly vulnerable to a Focus Strike. After an electrical discharge, its back becomes a weak spot that can be exploited with a well-timed Focus Strike.

Critical HP Underwater AOE: As Lagiacrus approaches critical HP, it retreats underwater (near its nest) and begins charging a massive AOE attack. Failing to interrupt this attack will result in an instant cart for you and your allies, akin to Zoh Shia's Fire AOE. To interrupt this, you must follow it underwater and assault the monster.

Weaknesses of Lagiacrus

Lagiacrus shares similar breakable weak spots with Mizutsune: Head, Back, Legs, and Tail. However, Lagiacrus's entire body is more heavily armored, making it challenging to wound, especially with blunt weapons. Tenderizing its flesh, particularly in phase 2, is crucial for creating exploitable wounds.Elemental Weaknesses: Lagiacrus is notably weak to Fire, Ice, and Dragonblight.Status Weaknesses: It is susceptible to all status ailments, including:

• Poison
• Sleep
• Blast
• Exhaust

Due to its inherent resistance to Lightning, Paralysis, and Stun are less effective. However, Flash Pods can effectively stun the monster. Both Shock Traps and Pitfall Traps are also effective against Lagiacrus.Items To Carry:

• Mega Potions
• Ancient Potion
• Nulberry (essential for curing Lightning Blight)
• Flash Pod
• Energy Drink (highly recommended for Dual Blade and Bow users)
• Farcaster
• Shock Trap
• Pitfall Trap

How To Easily Defeat Lagiacrus in MH Wilds?

The battle against Lagiacrus unfolds in two primary phases, which can be initially confusing due to their similar appearances. The keydifferentiator is the frequency and intensity of Lagiacrus's enragedform.

Phase 1:In the first phase, Lagiacrus frequently enters and exits its enragedstate, telegraphed by its back scales glowing blue. During this phase,most of its lightning attacks are relatively easy to dodge. Your primary objective in Phase 1 should be to deal as much damage as possible.

Weapon Recommendations:

• Blast or Dragonblight weapons are highly recommended, as both elements, coupled with the Critical Element skill, are incredibly effective against Lagiacrus.
• Keep Nulberries readily available to cleanse the Lightning debuff, which temporarily increases your Stamina consumption and damage received.

Opening Strategies:

• If you're using a heavier weapon like the Great Sword, consider using Traps early in the fight to create openings for powerful combos.
• Mounting the monster at the start of the battle is an excellent way to secure a free stagger and an opportunity to create wounds.
• In co-op, having at least one Heavy Bowgun in the team can be highly beneficial for consistent damage.
• Focus on skills that amplify elemental damage and Affinity, as Lagiacrus is highly susceptible to elemental attacks.

Phase 2 Transition:Lagiacrus does not undergo a significant physical transformation in Phase 2, but it becomes more consistently enraged, identifiable by its charged back-crystals. Your objective in this phase shifts to creating and destroying wounds for elemental damage.

Underwater Sequence (Critical HP Gimmick):This is the trickiest part of the encounter, occurring as Lagiacrus's HP nears critical.

Lagiacrus will retreat underwater and begin charging a huge AOE.

You must follow it into the water.

Dodge Lagiacrus's initial barrages of attacks. Press X to dodge sideways, or R2/R1 to dodge upwards and downwards.

While dodging, you can also collect Helix Piercing Pods (slinger ammo found underwater) and fire them at the monster.

Once Lagiacrus is staggered, press R2 and then R1 to clutch-grab the monster.

Follow the grab with either R1 or Triangle inputs to deal damage to Lagiacrus.

Repeat this process a few times until an automated cutscene triggers, whereyour Hunter clings to Lagiacrus's head and deals massive damage,interrupting its ultimate AOE attack.

During this underwater phase, specifically target Lagiacrus’s head, as it is the primary weak spot. Additionally, you can temporarily immobilize the monster by severing its tail or breaking its back.
