Lagiacrus, the formidable Leviathan, has made its grand return to Monster Hunter Wilds with the Free Title Update 2, which was released on June 30, 2025. However, you won't simply stumble upon it roaming the game's biomes. To challenge this electrifying beast, you must first complete a specific hunt quest, which itself has a set of prerequisites.
This article details the unlocking prerequisites for Lagiacrus in Monster Hunter Wilds.

How do you unlock Lagiacrus in Monster Hunter Wilds?

Firstly, ensure your game is updated to the latest version (Title Update 2.0 or later). To unlock the quest for the titular monster, three prerequisites must be fulfilled:

Reach Hunter Rank 31 or higher: This indicates you've progressed sufficiently through the game's main story.

Complete the "A World Turned Upside Down" main mission: This is a crucial story mission that you must finish to advance in the game and unlock further content.

Complete the "Forest Doshaguma" side mission for Erik in Scarlet Forest: This specific side mission is mandatory. If you've already completed it, you're good to go. If not, seek out Erik in the Scarlet Forest to pick up and complete this quest.

After completing all these requirements, you may need to pass time in the tent or quit and restart the game. Once you're back in the game, Alma, your Handler, will inform you that Erik wants to have a chat.

• Head to the base camp in Scarlet Forest.
• Once there, speak with Erik. This conversation will unlock the ability to hunt Lagiacrus in Monster Hunter Wilds via the "Extra Mission 2: Trembling Blue Currents" quest.
• Erik will serve as your handler for this crucial mission. After some investigation within the quest, you'll eventually come face-to-face with Lagiacrus.

Important Note for the Initial Hunt: For "Extra Mission 2: Trembling Blue Currents," you'll be required to capture the creature instead of slaying it. Therefore, prepare accordingly by bringing Pitfall Traps or Shock Traps, along with Traq Bombs, to successfully capture Lagiacrus.Once you successfully capture Lagiacrus in Monster Hunter Wilds, its normal variant will start appearing as a wild monster roaming in the open world, allowing for repeatable hunts. Furthermore, when you reach Hunter Rank 41, the more challenging eight-star Tempered version of Lagiacrus will also begin making appearances, offering even greater rewards and a tougher fight.

What is Lagiacrus?

Lagiacrus is a majestic and fearsome Leviathan monster that first debuted in Monster Hunter 3. Its primary habitat is underwater, where it is known as the "Lord of theSeas." However, it is a highly capable fighter on both sea and land,making it a versatile and dangerous opponent. In Monster Hunter Wilds, this giant creature is positioned at the apex of the aquatic food chain.

The element that makes Lagiacrus a particularly tough fight is its thunder affinity. The creature possesses many powerful lightning attacks that can deal heavy damage and also inflict Thunderblight.8 Thunderblight is a status effect that significantly increases the likelihood of aplayer getting stunned by monster attacks, which can be incrediblydangerous during a hunt.9Therefore, hunters should either aim for high Thunder Resistance in their armor sets or carry a plentiful supply of Nullberries to cure the blight.

As mentioned, the initial Lagiacrus hunt for unlocking it willspecifically require you to capture the beast, so always ensure you keep a stock of Pitfall Traps and Traq Bombs ready for the fight.
