The original Soul Reaver game launched on the classic PlayStation console, captivating audiences with its groundbreaking 3D graphics that set a new standard for the era. Experience the haunting allure of Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered, where players can immerse themselves in dark gothic landscapes, engage in thrilling boss battles, and challenge their minds with intricate puzzles. In addition to the familiar elements making a comeback, a variety of exciting new features have been introduced for the remastered versions of Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1 & 2.
Players will encounter a two-part puzzle that will serve as a roadblock on their journey through Necropolis. Both sections demand strategic thinking with substantial stone blocks, essential for advancing through a grand gate that leads back to a prior area, but only after clearing the way to the road ahead.
As players navigate through the game, they can easily access a map that reveals the names of each area. In Necropolis, they will discover a section that reveals how altering the Spectral Realm can uncover concealed pathways. It appears that ascending within the Material Plane is not an option, and players must shift to activate a cutscene. Upon shifting, players will face their initial wraith adversary. These are the twisted spirits of vampires that have lingered too long in the Spectral Realm. Conquer the wraith and seize its soul through exhilarating combat that echoes the thrilling hack and slash adventures of the PS1 era.
At this stage, players may find themselves uncertain about their next move, but fear not—the walls have transformed, unveiling new areas for exploration and ascent. The site is adjacent to the resting place of Melchiah's deceased offspring. Ascend this path and direct your gaze toward the left wall to spot a ledge perfect for gliding to. At the far left of this ledge, you'll find a block that you can pull. Here, you'll find your tutorial on flipping blocks. Move the block to the right, then elevate it to a higher position. Jump over the block, give it a pull, then leap back and push it until it fits snugly against the wall. This will serve as the key to unlock the top gate.
Proceed through the gate, and you'll encounter another sizable gate directly across from you, accompanied by a few adversaries lurking below. While the majority will find their resting place beneath the earth, one will stand out, having been pierced by a spear. Extract the spear from the defeated foe to bring it back to life, then use this very spear to pierce through all adversaries, capturing their souls as they succumb. This will also send the wraith to the Spectral Realm. Head to the right of the grand gate, and you'll discover another block that you can pull from the wall. Move this block into the pit and direct it towards the stairs across from the large gate.
Eliminate any foes that emerge from the ground by impaling them with your spear, then proceed to push the block forward.
Lift the block up the stairs and place it into the block-shaped slot to the right of the gate beneath the one you arrived from. This will create a pathway for you to return to the room where your journey began. Players will now have access to both small gates. Return to the top gate, where you'll spot a beam that you can leap up to with a high jump. On either side of the room, you'll notice a scale prominently displayed. In the Spectral Realm, you will experience a weightless existence, and these scales will remain perfectly still, regardless of any jumps made upon them. Yet, this does not hold true for the Material Plane. Step onto either side of this scale in the Material Plane to elevate one side while lowering the other.
Transition into the Spectral Realm and navigate your way back to the upper gate, then soar over to the scale side that has now ascended significantly. This will help you access the ledge on the opposite side of the room. Step into another room where the block puzzle awaits you. Gather souls to replenish your stamina, enabling your return to the Material Plane. A block-sized indent will be visible on each side of the room, with a grand gate positioned between them. The symbols on these indents must align between both blocks, yet only one block is oriented correctly. Flanking the expansive gate, players will find a ledge where they can maneuver the blocks, pushing the top one off the bottom with ease.
Follow these steps to ensure both blocks are aligned correctly, even if they've been repositioned from their original placement.
If you haven't tried to adjust it yet, here's how to position it correctly.
While finishing this puzzle won't grant players any achievements or trophies, it still offers a rewarding sense of accomplishment, allowing them to move forward to the next thrilling chapter of the game's engaging narrative. At the summit of this gate, players will encounter two wooden doors that lead to a block positioned near a ledge. Move this block downward until it aligns next to the other block. Turn it onto the block beneath and then slide them downwards. When they reach the southernmost point, direct them eastward until they are positioned against a wall. Leap over these blocks, then make another jump to grab the ledge at the top of the wall. Proceed along the path ahead to uncover the puzzle that will guide you to the Melchia boss fight, along with the location of one of the game's Glyph Statue rooms.
To the south of these blocks, players will find a door leading to a fast travel room. Players will have already navigated this room previously, eliminating the need to retrace their steps and run back through.
