Hyper Light Breaker has several features that you will need to find yourself, and sometimes it takes a few tries for everything to fall into place. One of these is Shrines, which are a great boon to your health recovery.

How to heal at Shrines in Hyper Light Breaker?
Shrines work a little differently: they provide a way to recover health, but they don't actually heal you. But before embarking on that boss-defeating-for-his-crown adventure or doing that daring escape via the teleporter pad, many times it's a good idea to take a slight detour to a nearby Shrine. Pick up that lost medkit and raise those survival odds against whatever baddies you'll come across on your way.
Shrines also act as significant respawning points. If you die at any point in the run, then come back through the teleporter and head into the Overgrowth once more, you will respawn at the nearest Shrine to the location where you died. It is a very good chance to recalculate your route. Unfortunately random generation might spawn it closer to, or farther from your target.
In Hyper Light Breaker, you begin with no medkit. These are unlocked by collecting other items, defeating some enemies, and exploring Overgrowth. If you successfully return with items, you more than likely will have the option to unlock a medkit that will allow you to start using it once you have one at a Shrine.

Speak with the Breaker Captain, the first merchant you will meet in the hub, shortly after the game starts. He stands at the entrance of the hub area. You will return to this spot either by choice or when you die, as it is your spawn point. He has several upgrades that can be purchased, as well as different medkit packages, all of which require Golden Rations.
Golden Rations are somewhat challenging to obtain in Hyper Light Breaker. These pop up following the completion of runs within the Overgrowth, after you've been kicked out of all your lives, completed a run, and taken down the Abyss King. Or they might pop up while you're out exploring the Overgrowth. Once you have at least one, take it to the Breaker Captain in order to trade it in for your first medkit.
This is probably one of the best early upgrades you can pick up in this game, given it increases drastically the chances of your survival. Outside of new character unlocks and buying additional classes for them, healing oneself in combat is limited to just a couple of methods other than executing a perfect parry against your opponent or picking up health drops during said fight. With very few options when it comes to healing, putting points into upgrades and buying medkits is crucial for completing your journey in Hyper Light Breaker. After using them, make sure you find a Shrine on the map to recharge before entering a major battle.
