While new crafting material Variable Dice aren't as huge as some other things in the massive Amphoreus update for Honkai: Star Rail, it can definitely help players cope with the frustrating Relic system.

Securing a god roll Players have to spend copious amounts of time and patience in HSR to play with relics, along with much higher risks once they get going into leveling them. Once players build up a strong set of better artifacts but suffered poor luck with regards to the substat upgrade distributions being jumbled all over the place, they will definitely find that Variable Dice greatly simplify the later steps of the process and become incredibly valuable.

How to Get Variable Dice in Honkai Star Rail?

One of the two ways to acquire Variable Dice is through the game's crafting system; the other doesn't cost real money. To craft a single Variable Dice, it requires three Self-Modeling Resins, a resource currently only available through the battle pass. The moment players hit Level 20, they will be entitled to a free Self-Modeling Resin in the pass. Once they reach Level 50, they can purchase a premium pass to get another one.

Each battle pass is approximately six weeks because it refreshes with the beginning of a new patch. So, One Variable Dice needs over a month to be farmed into the needed amount of Self-Modeling Resins. For context, after reaching Level 40 in the premium battle pass track, you may select a Variable Dice reward. Also, in HSR, there is the so-called Self-Modeling Resins used to craft custom relics.

Events in HSR may grant Variable Die as a reward. Be sure to check the rewards for each event so you don't miss out.

Variable Dice Implementation

Variable Dice usage is unlocked once a player has leveled up a relic to 15. Once you've selected an upgraded relic, head to the bottom right and click the Reroll button. Rerolling a relic always consumes one Variable Dice, regardless of how many times it had previously been rolled.

To put it another way, rerolling a relic does not affect the substats themselves; it only affects how the upgrades are distributed to them. If you use a Variable Dice on a relic that rolled +4 to DEF, for example, those four upgrades will be divided randomly to the other substats.

Instead, players will be able to use the crafting resource Wishful Resin to obtain the relics with the desired substats through Relic Synthesis.
