How To Get Past the Mist in Hollow Knight Silksong

One of the most disorienting and challenging areas in Hollow Knight: Silksong is The Mist. This eerie, fog-laden region is designed to test a player's observation skills and resolve. Unlike other zones, The Mist has no map, and its layout is procedurally generated. Hornet must navigate this ever-shifting maze while being relentlessly pursued by powerful enemies that can phase through solid surfaces. For many players, The Mist can quickly turn into a frustrating dead end, but with the right knowledge, you can survive the fog and find your way to the exit.

Silksong: How To Get Past the Mist

Entering The Mist

There are two main entrances to The Mist, and the path you take doesn't affect the randomized layout or difficulty of the area. The first entrance is located through Sinner’s Road. To traverse this route, you’ll need to have acquired the Cling Grip and Needolin abilities. From Sinner's Road, make your way to the top-right part of the region, where a specific entrance will lead you directly into the foggy expanse.The second entry point is from the Bilewater area. This path typically becomes more accessible later in the game, and it requires the Double Jump ability to navigate effectively. While it may seem like a more advanced route, it offers no tactical advantage over the Sinner's Road entrance, as you will always start in the same initial room of The Mist regardless of where you came from.

Navigating and Escaping the Mist

The primary challenge of The Mist is its randomized nature. Taking awrong turn can send you back to the very beginning, forcing you to start the entire ordeal over again. However, there is a reliable method tofind the correct exit from each room, much like the "Lost Woods" puzzlein The Legend of Zelda. The secret lies with the fireflies, or "glowflies," that are scattered throughout the area.

Whenever you enter a new room, locate a cluster of these fireflies. By playing your Needolin near them, they will begin to fly in a specific direction. Thismovement is a subtle yet reliable indicator of the correct path to theexit. You may not be able to follow them all the way, as they move quite quickly, but their general direction will give you the hint you need to proceed. Keep an eye out for these glowing insects in every new roomyou enter, and use your Needolin to guide you toward the correct exit.This process must be repeated multiple times as you go from room to room until you reach the end.

Dealing with the Dangers

While navigating the maze is the main puzzle, you also have to contend withThe Mist's hostile inhabitants. The most prominent threat is a powerfulenemy that will stalk Hornet throughout the area. These creatures areparticularly dangerous because they can phase through walls andplatforms, making it impossible to hide from them. You'll know one isabout to attack when it emits a piercing scream, followed by a charge.

When an enemy is about to charge, your best strategy is to bait its attack,then jump over it and strike downward with a pogo attack. This is themost effective way to deal with it, but you will need to repeat theprocess several times to defeat it. While fighting these enemies is anoption, it is also a viable strategy to simply avoid them and focus onfinding the fireflies to make a quick escape.

Once you havesuccessfully navigated the series of randomized rooms, you will exit The Mist and find yourself in a new area that leads to the final boss ofthe game's first act.
