The Two Core Properties of Shards

Shards have two main properties that you need to understand: their size and their type. These two properties are determined by the enemies you defeat. The higher the grade of your weapon, the more valuable the shards you will need to upgrade it.

How to Get All Shard Sizes

Shards come in three different sizes: Small, Medium, and Large. The size of the shard you get is directly determined by the level of the enemy you defeat.

• Level 1 Enemies: Drop Small Shards.
• Level 2 Enemies: Drop Medium Shards.
• Level 3 Enemies: Drop Large Shards.

To quickly check an enemy's level, simply use the lock-on feature (R3/RS)and look for a number next to its health bar. The more powerful orunique enemies will typically be a higher level and drop more shards.

How to Get All Shard Types

In addition to their size, shards also have a specific type or color that corresponds to the different Lymbic energies you'll encounter in the game. These types are:

• Neutral (White)
• Rage (Red)
• Terror (Green)

To get a specific type of shard, you need to defeat an enemy that isimbued with that corresponding Lymbic energy. These enemies are easy tospot by a distinct color on their chest. They may also bepreceded by a Lymbic energy entity that you must defeat first before the main enemy appears. For example, defeating a red-colored enemy willgive you Rage shards. Defeating a normal, uncolored enemy will give youNeutral shards.

Using the Blacksmith to "Infuse" Shards

If you're in desperate need of a specific type of shard but can't find the corresponding enemy, the game provides a helpful workaround. Theblacksmith in Jova, named Victor, has a special mechanic that allows you to create the shards you need.

• The "Infuse Shards" Mechanic: Go to the town of Jova and find Victor at his blacksmith station. Select the "Craft" menu and then choose the "Infuse Shards" option.
• The Cost: This process is not free. To create one colored shard (Rage, Terror, Grief, or Ecstasy), you must trade in three Neutral shards of the same size. For example, if you need a Large Terror shard, you must have three Large Neutral shards in your inventory.
