How to Get Mead for the Soldier in Jova in Hell Is Us

The town of Jova in Hell Is Us is a hub of military presence under the control of the cruel Captain Vaas. While many of the soldiers follow his orders, one particular soldier has a different priority: alcohol. This drunk soldier holds the key to Captain Vaas' office and is willing to part with it for a good drink.This guide will walk you through the entire Captain's Office Mystery, explaining where to find the soldier, how to get the moonshine and mead he desires, and how to finally gain access to Vaas' office.

Hell Is Us: Get Mead for the Soldier in Jova

Part 1: Starting the Quest in Jova

The quest begins in the town of Jova and is a two-part fetch quest. You'll need to find the soldier first before you can begin your search for his drink of choice.

• Locating the Soldier: The soldier is easy to find. Look for him sitting on a picnic bench near the town's blacksmith. When you speak with him, he'll reveal that he has the key to Captain Vaas' office—the large building with a flag flying out front. He offers to trade the key for more "booze."

Part 2: The Moonshine Detour

Your first task is to bring the soldier some alcohol. He's not pickyat first, and a bottle of moonshine is the first thing you'll need tofind.

• Find the Sabinian House: Head tothe house located directly behind the town's well. You'll know it's theright place by the graffiti on the front that reads "Sabinian Family Tree."
• Get Inside: To the right of the front door, you'll see a ramp made of palletsleading up to a balcony. You can open the door on this balcony to getinside the house.
• Find the Moonshine: Once inside, make your way downstairs to the basement. There, you'll find a fridge with a distinctive yellow glint. Interact with it to grab a bottle of moonshine.
• The First Trade: Return to the soldier on the picnic bench and use the "Trade" option.He'll happily accept the moonshine and give you some consumables inreturn. However, he'll quickly decide he wants something better and will specifically ask for a full bottle of mead this time.

Part 3: Getting the Mead from Lake Cynon

The second part of this quest can be a bit tricky, as it is tied to yourmain story progression. To get the mead, you'll need to have reached the point where the NPCs Rebecca and Jaffer have moved to the Lake Cynon region. This typically occurs after you've acquired at least two of the three main keystones in Act 2.

• Travel to Lake Cynon: Once you know Rebecca and Jaffer have relocated, travel to Lake Cynon.
• Find the Building with Bees: Look for a building on the opposite side of the region from where youpark your APC. You'll know you've found the right spot because therewill be bees buzzing around the building, and Jaffer will be standing outside.
• Grab the Mead: Right next to Jaffer, you'll find a bottle of mead sitting on top of a barrel. Interact with it to pick it up.

Part 4: Gaining Access to Captain Vaas' Office

With the mead in hand, you can now return to Jova and claim your reward: the key to Captain Vaas' office.

• The Final Trade: Return to the soldier and use the "Trade" option once more. He'llgratefully accept the mead and give you the key to Vaas' office. He'llalso hint that you'll need to use a balcony to get inside.
• Find the Back Entrance: With the key in your possession, head around to the back of Vaas'office building. You'll find a cleverly positioned stack of boxes andbarrels that form a ramp.
• Enter the Office: Go upthe ramp to the roof and then drop down through the gap on the otherside to land on the balcony. Use the key on the door to get inside.

While Vaas' office is not a treasure trove of items, it does contain someinteresting lore-building elements, including an audio diary, a prisonmanifesto, and a hat on a coat holder. If you're an achievement hunter,grabbing the cap will unlock the "Passion for Fashion" achievement.
