The new race was one of the most controversial announcements in the Final Fantasy Fan Fest that took place over the weekend in Tokyo.

Hrothgar is the new race that will take place in the new expansion in Shadowbringers of Final Fantasy XIV Online, the controversies regarding this new race were not long in coming, this because it has been said that the new Hrothgar races were blocked to the male characters and Viera on the other hand is blocked for female characters.

Naoki Yoshida, who is director of Final Fantasy XIV Online, told an interview for GameSpot that his team has not had enough reasons to start considering the comments because Hothgar's announcement was made a short time ago and he also said:

"We have to identify what they are coming from, so that we can respond correctly."

"We want to review all the comments the players gave, the bottom line is that the addition of a race costs a lot - it's really a company."

The game's director also said that in Final Fantasy XII, which is where the Viera come from, the male Viera do not appear in public, and it is logical that Final Fantasy XIV does not want to go over the story of their birth by offering a single female option.

He also said that Hrothgar, it was the developers' job to provide new careers for men, this because, Viera is only for women.

Yoshida also wanted to make clear through GameSpot, that Hrothgar could become the last new race added to Final Fantasy XIV Online, because it is difficult to create new races.

The Shadowbringers expansion is expected to be launched on July 2.

Final Fantasy XIV is now available on both the PS4 and PC, and it is expected that soon the release will be made for the Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch.
