How To Sever Limbs in Freedom Wars Remastered?
To perform a severing attack, you can use any one-handed weapon available within the game. Just make sure that you wear it when you are using your Thorn to hook an enemy. Sure, one-handed melee is capable of doing severing as their best feature, but that doesn't mean that it's not possible for other weapon classes to also be capable of performing the said action.
You can buy a Flare Knife at Zakka for 3,000 Entitlement Points. This battle weapon will grant you the ability to sever an abductor, regardless of what your equipped main weapon is. When the Flare Knife is equipped and in your active slot, the Sever option will be available the instant you latch onto an enemy.
Severing Abductor Limbs in Freedom Wars Remastered
The basic combat, Flare Knife or not, involves locking onto a target in the midst of a fight and trying to target one of their limbs; if it's an extremity, it'll glow red within the lock-on icon - an indicator that it can be severed. Direct your attention to that target and with your Thorn in, pull yourself to the enemy and wait for a sever button to pop up onto your screen. He's going to hold on tight and begins sawing into that connecting tendon between body and extremity, which causes damage each and every second the more you build damage if you can continuously hold the sever button.
The semicircle around the sever button shows your proximity to being able to sever that limb, and the meter doesn't reset if you get knocked down and have to try again. While you are in the middle of attempting to sever, you deal consistent damage, which also works to detach the limb. Be careful, though-you can be easily knocked off if the Abductor performs either of the following actions:
- Attacks you with that limb.
- Collides with an object.
- It lunges at you with its other arm.
To avoid getting killed while severing, you'll want to continue to keep an eye on the Abductor and jump off when necessary to ensure that you don't take any damage. If you use the basic jump command while severing, it will cancel the action and allow you to jump clearly off without taking damage.
You can also slowly sever a limb without latching on by jumping and attacking the connection point between the limb and main body where you'd normally sever, but this won't always deal damage to the sever meter and is unreliable compared to grappling and severing as usual. Limbs severed off will be unusable by the enemy and can also be picked up for additional resources to donate or hold onto.
