How to Prevent a Nuclear Explosion
Well, it just so happens that Otto will stop and chat with players who have escorted him to the surface before hopping back onto the U-96 to try to convince him to remain free and make a clean slate for himself on the surface. I highly advise you do not! The AI will spiral completely out of control without Otto's interference and create a nuclear explosion that cleans out London and begins a cutscene to explain what happened to end the game.
It is always an option to load a previous save. The only chance the player has to escape the submarine is when they agree to install the Language Module, which opens up a conversation with Kant. Kant locks down the submarine and refuses to let players off, believing the Wayfarer is part of the crew.
How to Get Out of the Submarine While Dealing With Kant
There are two ways that the players can leave the submarine. The first is by having a talk with Kant over his "sacred duty". "Ah, so you see people as a means to a goal?" - this option should be chosen when prompted. Because of this, Kant would doubt his logic and become reserved.
With the Hacker perk, players get two options to pull off the objective and make an escape. Unlocks a new conversation option where the player offers Kant a challenge of a logical puzzle; after which Kant miserably fails to resolve it and continues further with his shutdowns.
If you have shut down Kant, players will receive Hans' Flamethrower as reward, a truly devastating piece of equipment - a reason alone to complete this quest. You can get an incredibly powerful pistol from Hans after he has fallen and you loot his body. Neither ghoul can be killed before the player ends their misery when they are down.
One Spot For All Your Submarine Keys
In addition to the objective, using the key cards and locked doors to solve a mini-puzzle will help players uncover loads of secret goodies. Be sure to pay attention in these places because the cards may be tough to find:
- The Electrical Division ID card rests on top of the console in the middle room next to the skeletons of Kant and Helmut.
- Down the stairs to the first set and on the grey console to your left, find the reactor maintenance ID card.
- Cold storage room card: On the table in the main part of the canteen.
- Reactor control room card: in cold storage room.
- In the Reactor Control Room, the Commander's ID card is on the main console desk.
Upon entering the canteen that is attached to the Reactor Maintenance section, multiple ghouls, one of which is a Legendary Putrid Glowing One, will assault the players. This fight can be rather challenging without significant assistance and ammo, so it can be worth one's while to prepare accordingly. The player can retreat to higher floors and summon Hans and Otto to deal with them; they will also attack hostile ghouls in range. If all chambers are unlocked, players gain full control over the submarine and the nuclear launch keys.
