By default, the primary objective in most battles of Dynasty Warriors: Origins is to defeat the officers. Compared to basic units, officers possess significantly larger health bars, and most are capable of guarding and fortifying themselves, making them far more difficult to kill than the average unit.

Assaults are strong strikes that could even knock an officer cold in a single second and throw them off their feet. To assault an officer, you will need to break his guard; the yellow shields above his health meter. Here's how to do that.
 

How To Break Fortification in Dynasty Warriors Origins?


To initiate an Assault, you must wear off all shields of the Fortification that is placed above your opponent. Regular attacks cannot always breach those shields, especially in case your opponent is on guard. On guard, they can take some damage, but their fortification shields do not deplete. Here are some ways to break an officer's defense and damage his stronghold:


  • Deflecting his attack
  • Countering their moves as they strike
  • Utilize Combat Arts
  • Utilize Musou Attacks
  • Landing Parties


Musou attacks pack a punch and should be reserved for formidable foes, acting as your ultimate weapon in battle. Use them wisely! Parrying stands out as a powerful technique to breach your opponent's defenses. Successfully parrying a strike releases a palm strike-like follow-through that sends them back and further interrupts their assault, shattering that initial screen of protection they had. You parry by using the block button just before an enemy strike hits you, providing it's a basic attack wherein they're not glowing orange or red.


Once one layer of defense is broken, the next layer continues to take the brunt of the subsequent attacks.


Mastering Combat Techniques & Flawless Evasion



Combat Arts deal massive damage thanks to Bravery and an open enemy guard. Initiating a battle with a Combat Art will break their defense, which states that your normal moves afterwards will pierce through part of their guard. A well-timed perfect dodge doesn't break the opponent's guard but will recover your Bravery in order to be able to spam your Combat Arts more often.


Combat Arts can also be used to deflect Dangerous Attacks, which are indicated by an enemy glowing orange. These will greatly lower the enemy's defenses if successfully deflected while also blocking a powerful attack from hitting you.


How to Master Dynasty Warriors: Origins Combat



When an Officer's fortification is completely drained, they will be knocked to the ground and will lie there for a few seconds. You can either take advantage of this opportunity to attack them or you can use an Assault. To do Assaults, simply click the same button you use for your Strong Attack:

Depending on how much health the officer has remaining, the Assault will either instant-kill him or allow you to repeatedly mash the button for a series of powerful attacks. The assault has a huge attack radius, meaning that all enemies within its vicinity will take a tonne of damage. Attacking an officer when one of his comrades is fully fortified is a superb method of breaking defenses and causing damage.
