How to Complete The Way Between Quest in Destiny 2
This guide details how to acquire the Barrow-Dyad Exotic SMG in Destiny 2 through the hidden "The Taken Path" quest, which leads to the Derealize Exotic mission.
This quest is initiated by finding a hidden Taken Blight during a run of The Nether. The Blight's location is random and not guaranteed to spawn on every run. Repeatedly restarting The Nether (either playlist version, including solo) increases the chances of it appearing.
Possible Blight Locations: (See provided images for visual cues)
Inside the Blight: Once you find a Blight, jump inside. Stand on the lone plate inside the Blight. You will receive a directional prompt ("Something whispers to the..."). Follow this prompt to teleport to a room containing a Taken Osseous Fragment. Retrieve the fragment.
Eris Morn: Return to Eris Morn's apartment in the Last City and speak to her. This will begin "The Taken Path" quest.
This quest chain is relatively short and should take about an hour to complete (excluding the Derealize missionitself). Subsequent completions of Derealize unlock the weapon'scatalyst and upgrades.
Sorrow's Harbor Secret: The first objective directs you to Sorrow's Harbor, but the actuallocation is within the K1 Revelations Lost Sector. Progress halfwaythrough the Lost Sector. After the Shrieker encounter, shoot a floatingTaken Blight to corrupt the sector. Defeat the boss; the fragment isnear its usual spawn point.
Forgotten Shore Secret: Next, Sloane's readings lead you to the Forgotten Shore in theCosmodrome. Enter the Veles Labyrinth Lost Sector. From the spawn point, go left, then right at the next fork. The Blight is in the followingroom. Destroy it, follow the directional prompts, and defeat the Phalanx boss to obtain the fragment.
Taken Osseous Curses:Three more fragments are locked behind "curses." Each curse requiresusing a Taken relic to get kills in a specific activity. Charge therelic, destroy it, and then locate the fragment. Complete all threecurses.
The Nether Fragments:After completing the curses, enter The Nether (a private instance isrecommended). Three Hive statues hold the final fragments. Interact with a statue, defeat the miniboss that spawns, and interact again to claimthe fragment. Repeat this process for all three statues. (See providedimages for locations.)
Complete Derealize:Finally, complete the Derealize Exotic mission (located in The Last City Director). This will unlock the Barrow-Dyad SMG. Further customizationoptions are available at the Enclave in Savathun's Throne World,unlocked through mission secrets and higher difficulty runs.
The weapon's catalyst and further upgrades are obtained through repeatedcompletions of the Derealize mission. Be aware that catalysts may betime-gated.
