Progress to Episode 3: While the Harmonica played a minor role in the original Death Stranding, it was a fan-favorite item that many might have overlooked. Consequently, many players will naturally question its return in DS2. Music enthusiasts will be pleased to learn that it does indeed make a comeback, but the method of acquisition is entirely different this time around.
Some DS2 fans might have suspected that since Sam concluded the first game with the Harmonica in his possession, he would still have it. While this is technically true, Sam won't be able to use it until some crucial story events unfold. Episodes 1 and 2 of Death Stranding 2 contain earth-shattering developments that profoundly shake the world of Death Stranding, and we will avoid spoiling them here.
What we can confirm is that once Episode 3 begins, and you find yourself with your BB pod re-attached to your chest, the Harmonica will suddenly appear in your inventory.
How to Use the Harmonica in Death Stranding 2
Music at Rest:In Death Stranding 2, the Harmonica functions very similarly to
the original game. To use it, you'll first need to equip it. You can do
this by navigating to the 'Face' section of the gear menu. The gear menu can be opened by pressing left on the D-Pad.
Once the Harmonica is equipped, you'll need to sit down and rest. Resting appears to be the only time you can use the Harmonica in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.
Playing the Harmonica offers two significant Lou-related benefits:
Likes from Lou: Lou will provide two separate offerings of Likes: 20 and 5, respectively.
Improved Mood: Lou's mood will visibly improve as she enjoys Sam's performance, serving as another method to soothe Lou in DS2.
Currently, playing for Lou is the only known use for the Harmonica. If any new
uses are discovered, this guide will be updated accordingly.
