In the second region of
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, as players explore the Australian landscape, they will encounter a diverse array of BTs and Chiral Creatures. Among these are the
Chiral Bats, which, unlike some non-hostile creatures, will actively attack Sam and any vehicle he's operating if he gets too close. These encounters can be particularly frustrating, as conventional ranged weapons like assault rifles are largely ineffective against them. Here's how to effectively deal with Chiral Bats in
Death Stranding 2.
How To Deal With Chiral Bats in Death Stranding 2
Given the ineffectiveness of standard firearms and melee weapons against Chiral Bats, your primary defense will come from
grenades. Specifically, the
Blood Grenade and the
MP Grenade are your most reliable tools.
1. Unlocking Necessary Grenades:- Blood Grenades (Level 1): These are unlocked after completing Order 4: Recover All Chiral Density Gauges Stolen by Bandits. This order leads to connecting the C1 South Distribution Center to the Chiral Network. Blood Grenade Lv. 2 will unlock once you reach Connection Level 3 with the C1 South Distribution Center.
- MP Grenades: These are unlocked after completing Order 10. This order involves linking the Western Environmental Observatory to the Chiral Network.
- Battle Skeleton: Coincidentally, Order 10 also unlocks the Battle Skeleton, an exoskeleton that significantly enhances Sam's combat effectiveness and cargo carrying capacity, making it a valuable asset for all deliveries.
2. Combat Strategy:- Preparation: Once you have unlocked and fabricated a supply of Blood Grenades and MP Grenades, make sure to place them in your grenade pouch for quick access.
- Approaching Bats: As you approach an area with Chiral Bats (often seen flying in large groups near shores), keep your eyes and Odradek scanner peeled. It's best to engage them before they get too close and swarm you, as their attacks can quickly degrade Sam's health and cargo durability.
- Using MP Grenades:
- As the Bats approach, open your Weapons/Tool wheel and equip an MP Grenade.
- Aim and throw the grenade on the ground near you as the Bats draw near. The explosion should effectively take out a significant portion, if not all, of the swarm in a single blast.
- If a few stragglers remain after the explosion, you can often choose to ignore them and continue with your delivery, as their numbers will be drastically reduced.
- Using Blood Grenades:
- Blood Grenades work similarly to MP Grenades but have a slightly different effect.
- You can throw a Blood Grenade directly underneath you or into the approaching swarm.
- Stand within the resulting blood mist for a few seconds. The mist will continuously damage the Bats, causing them to dwindle in number and eventually be eliminated.
- Blood Grenades also obscure the Bats' vision, giving you a brief window of safety.
Fabrication Cost for Blood and MP Grenades in Death Stranding 2
Both Blood and MP Grenades are relatively inexpensive to fabricate and areoften found as lost cargo or in Shared Cargo features at Safehouses orDistribution Centers.
Here are their fabrication costs per unit (or batch):
Grenade | Materials Required |
Blood Grenade | 40 Chiral Crystals, 25 Resins |
MP Grenade | 30 Resins, 25 Chemicals, 25 Special Alloy |
By stocking up on these specialized grenades and employing the correcttactics, Sam can effectively neutralize the threat posed by Chiral Bats, ensuring safer passage and more successful deliveries across Australia.
