With our help you will see that knowing Best Paladin build in Baldur’s Gate 3 is easier than you think.
Paladins are a popular choice among players of Baldur's Gate 3 due to their adaptability, skill in combat, support, and conversation options, and their ability to work well with both novices and veterans. Larian Studios reports that, over the first weekend, Paladin was the player-favorite class.
Are you aiming to become a model of justice from the ground up? Your playstyle and the level of group conformity will determine the best approach to taking on a Paladin. As a class, Paladin excels at providing frontline support and is fiercely protective of those they're with. In order to construct the ideal Paladin for BG3, here is all the information you want.
Best Paladin build in Baldur’s Gate 3
Making a Paladin can be done in a number of different ways. While we have some suggestions for what we think is the optimal build, your playstyle may dictate that you go with a different option. When you're crafting your Paladin, it's wise to prioritize Strength and Charisma. These are the base attributes they rely on in battle and they work in tandem with a lot of their Skills. Because they are always fighting on the front lines and need a lot of health, you should also give them a high Constitution.
We have more specific examples to help you maximize your Paladin's potential, but those are the key ability scores to bear in mind. If you're making a Paladin in BG3, here's what races, stats, subclasses, and spells are recommended.
The ultimate BG3 Paladin race
No one race is inherently better than any other when playing a Paladin, however there are a number of good options to consider for various reasons:
- The Half-Orc Paladin's aggressive playstyle benefits greatly from the addition of Relentless Endurance and Savage Attacks.
- Halfling (Strongheart): This race/subrace combo grants you a second roll if your Lucky roll is a one, and you get Advantage on saving throws against Poisoned and Frightened.
- Gold Dwarf, a dwarf, with an advantage on saving throws against poisoned and extra health per level.
The optimal beginning stats for a Paladin
The Paladin's preset starting stats are nearly ideal; just a minor adjustment is required. Considering you'll probably be wearing bulky gear, I'd recommend exchanging two Dexterity points for an additional Constitution point to get your modification up to +2.
Here are your beginning statistics:
- Power: 17 (up 1 point)
- Speed: 10 (+0)
- Fourteen members (+2)
- Brainpower: 8 (-1)
- Knowledge: 10 (+0)
- Appeal: 15 (+2)
You can increase your Strength by 4 and your Charisma by 3 with this stats build by using your first feat at level four on Ability Improvement. Nevertheless, I will delve into that topic further another day.
The optimal Paladin subclass
In my opinion, the Paladin subclass Oath of the Ancients is the way to go. One of the best group heal spells, Healing Radiance's effectiveness increases with leveling up. Level seven's Aura of Warding is incredibly helpful, as it permanently reduces spell damage taken by half the party. Later on, Turn the Faithless and Nature's Wrath are excellent options for controlling crowds.
In order to make a Paladin that is more aggressive, the Oath of Vengeance is a great option. This is the choice for you if you wish to take a more active role in the fight for your party's objectives. You could also become an Oathbreaker by abandoning your Paladin oath.
Which Paladin spells work best?
Even the Oathbreaker, one of the four Paladin subclasses, will have access to the same set of spells. At Paladin level two, you'll have access to level one spells. At Paladin level five, you'll be able to use level two spells. At Paladin level nine, you'll be able to use level three spells.
Some of the Paladin spells we recommend are as follows:
Initial spell level
Bless
- Effect: Grants a temporary boost to attack and defense.
- Target: Up to three creatures.
- Duration: 10 turns.
Command
- Effect: Forces a creature to perform a specific action.
- Options: Flee, approach, freeze, fall, or drop their weapon.
Cure Wounds
- Effect: Heals a nearby creature.
- Amount: 1d8 hit points.
Thunderous Smite
- Effect: Deals extra thunder damage and pushes the target away.
- Damage: +2d6 thunder damage.
- Knockback: Pushes the target three meters.
- Prone: Target may be knocked prone if they fail a Strength saving throw.
If you want to give your entire party an advantage in battle, cast Bless. In addition to doing additional damage, Thunderous Smite may also increase your crowd control effects and will not interrupt your active Concentration.
Spells at the 2-level
Aid:
- Effect: Heals allies and makes them more durable.
- Duration: Until you take a long rest.
Lesser Restoration:
- Effect: Cures a creature from various ailments like disease, poison, paralysis, or blindness.
Spells at level three
Blinding Smite
This spell adds extra radiant damage and has a chance of blinding the target.
Remove Curse
This spell removes all curses or hexes from a creature.
Warden of Vitality
This spell allows you to cast Restore Vitality as a bonus action to heal yourself or nearby allies for 10 turns.
You should definitely go with Warden of Vitality as your first level three spell option because it is one of the most effective healing spells in the game. Like Thunderous Smite, Blinding Smite does not interrupt your active Concentration, which is why it is one of my favorite smite abilities.
The recommended achievements for each level are as follows:
- Level up your Charisma to 18 and Strength to 16 with the Ability Improvement feat at level four.
- You can obtain Charger: Weapon Attack and Charger: Shove, two useful abilities for initiating fights, when you choose the Charger feat at level eight.
- Take Shield Master after you reach level 12. While protecting yourself with a shield, your Dexterity Saving Throws gain an additional 2 points. If your Saving Throw fails, the damage you incur is reduced to half. If your Saving Throw is successful, you will not be hurt. Both the Defense and Dueling fighting styles complement this well.
Some more advice on how to play Paladin
Pick a fighting style Defense or Dueling but wield a shield, heavy armor, and a one-handed weapon regardless. Wearing armor increases your AC by 1, and dueling increases damage dealt by any one-handed weapon by two, regardless of whether the weapon is Versatile or not, regardless of whether you have a shield in your other hand.
Make adjustments to the reaction settings of Divine Smite. you access Reactions, press "L." Then, make sure you check all the boxes for Divine Smite and the Ask box. After a melee attack connects, you'll have the opportunity to use Divine Smite, which eliminates the possibility of missing and squandering your assault. Countless times when casting Divine Smite, I failed to land an attack, resulting in the loss of a spell slot.
This is all that is required regarding Best Paladin build in Baldur’s Gate 3, you just have to follow the instructions to take advantage of this element of the game.
