Unfolding in the story-rich, action-packed roleplaying game Baldur's Gate 3: A tale of friendship and treachery, survival and sacrifice, and a powerless temptation.
If players wanted Minthara on their side before Patch 5, they had to take a stand with the Goblins and kill a slew of innocent Tieflings in the Grove. It seemed too much to sacrifice for just one character's recruitment, and therefore Larian Studios included an other method of acquiring Minthara that involves less deaths.
At the beginning of the game Minthara Baenre is a follower of The Absolute and of Drow race. About the attitude towards other persons, she is quite aggressive and unpleasant. While preparing the attack to Emerald Grove, Minthara is encountered for the first time in Act One, in the Goblin Camp. It is required from the players that they steal something from her or attack her without having a conversation with her while she is in the camp.
She will be updated to being "Temporarily Hostile." As soon as she falls low on health while engaging the party in combat, make sure to use non-lethal attacks to knock her out instead of killing her. When she is knocked out, the game will not register her as dead. If you plan on recruiting Minthara later in the game, she needs to be kept alive during Act One. Stock up before fighting her so she'll have the status effect.
Wait until Minthara is Temporarily Hostile before making sure she doesn't witness any of her buddies being killed - if so, she might turn Fully Hostile, hence unrecruitable. She's not the only citizen of the room - it's also home to a Scrying Eye, and some other goblins.
Make sure to deal non-lethal damage to each of them when Minthara is awake. You'd want to use melee attacks on the goblins while Minthara's alive, as even with non-lethal damage turned on, a ranged or spell attack might still kill an enemy.
If Minthara falls before joining the party, Withers or any spell or scroll cannot bring her back. Therefore, she needs to be kept alive if you wish to have her join later in the game. As was the case with the goblins, players will need to be very careful here and not use any spells or other ranged attacks that may drop her to zero health. She absolutely cannot be thrown over the cliff, as that would render her dead forever.
The first time players encounter Minthara is in Act One, but they cannot invite her to be a permanent party member until she is found in Moonrise Towers in Act Two. Given the sheer amount of content that can be experienced in Act 1, this could be several hours after fighting Minthara at the goblin camp. The moment Act Two does start, players should be traveling southbound to find Moonrise Towers.
They will have to disguise themselves as Absolutists in order to gain access to Ketheric Thorm's base. When inside, a dramatic scene will ensue where Ketheric Thorm condemns Minthara to death because of her failure to recover the Mysterious Artefact.
It's up to the players whether to save Minthara by fighting her way out of the main hall. It will be a tough encounter even with Minthara fighting alongside the whole group, because all the cultists will become hostile.
If you wish to avoid the conflict, step off the stairs and meet her in prison at Moonrise Towers. From here, the quest "Decide Minthara's Fate" commences. Other than her, the players will also be able to leave the Moonrise Towers if they can successfully foil attempts at Intimidation, Deception, or Persuasion by two guards. Players are also presented with the opportunity of freeing gnomes and other detainees during the fight out of prison.
No matter how the player manages to leave, Minthara will show up to base camp and politely request to be a Companion. Though she's not exactly the life of the party, Minthara has some reservations about The Absolute and its actions, as any player who successfully romances her will learn.
Now that you know How to Recruit Minthara Without Betraying the Grove in Baldur's Gate 3, you have the necessary guidelines to achieve it easily.
