Gohma has been a returning boss since the very first Zelda from 1986. The strategy has traditionally revolved around attacking its large, prominent eyeball, but it's a smidge more complicated in Zelda Echoes of Wisdom.
That's what I mean by "smidge," as one can still just go straight for the target's eye, and that'll work. But honestly, most annoying part is actually waiting for the boss to open its peeper so you can shoot it in the eye. That happens solely when it's mounted on the wall - usually right before and right after it shoots a rather savage laser. That said, if you're lucky enough to shoot it when its eye is open, it falls to the ground and leaves you open to direct attack.
Zelda Echoes of Wisdom: How to defeat Gohma
Just so we're clear, as soon as the combat starts, I'd suggest summoning an electric monster forthwith. Your best bet would be a Wizzrobe electric fan. One can mostly just leave one alone, since it doesn't require any attention. Whenever the one that you use gets knocked out, you essentially just have to make a new one. But if for whatever reason you happen to be without an Electric Wizzrobe Echo-you can easily make do with an Electric Keese or even a spark-not ideal, but not too terrible either.
No matter you do, you need to lead them into the jewels adorning Gohma's legs. The crystals light up every time they are hit by a lightning strike. You need not wait for an opening to light all the three; doing so is equivalent to hitting Gohma in the eye. You can turn into swordsman mode and start hitting Gohma at his eyeball once it hits the ground.
First of all, to attack, Gohma will often climb the wall drop webs on the floor and even lay eggs. These eggs, before they hatch, will be easily destroyed, saving you from the hassle of fighting off monsters. You should be more concerned with dodging these attacks, but at the same time try to strike at the eggs, as they contain hearts or other useful items at times.
After you bring Gohma to its knees, it'll switch up its tactic. Mainly, it'll slash and spin. Just keep targeting the gems; it's nothing else you can do at this moment. Even though Wizzrobe still is your best option, you can make do with a couple of Buzz Blobs; these will be attracted to the monster naturally, and their attacks will sometimes-though incidentally-fling crystals at the electric slimes.
Just leave it alone as long as its on the ground. You will want to let your echoes do most of the work but if you're prepared for swordsman mode, it's worth picking up the little guys and eggs Gohma spawns. This will let your electrical friends work without disturbance. When it falls, jump on and get to work.
I think all Gohma needed to go down was to be knocked down three times, but anyway. While it's on its back, whack at its eye with everything you've got. If your health is really low, though, be careful, since it counter-attacks if you wait for it to get back up. Of course, if you have health to waste, take every chance you can to get in a good number of hits.
That's the gist of it:
- Hit it when the eye is open.
- Attack the gems on its legs with electric monsters when the eye is closed.
- Hit the eggs when you can.
- When you knock it over and the eye is exposed, you can jump on top of it and start hitting it 'till it explodes.
