How to level up trainees and support cards in Umamusume

In Umamusume: Pretty Derby, optimizing your trainees and support cards behind the scenes is crucial for achieving better results in Career Mode and tackling tougher challenges. Even though your trainee's stats reset with each new run, these enhancements provide a significant advantage.Let's break down how to level up your trainees and support cards, the resources required, and what to prioritize.

Umamusume: level up trainees and support cards

Your chosen horse girls for each Career Mode run can be permanently boosted through two main methods: Potential Level and Star Level.

1) Raise Their Potential Level

Raising a trainee's Potential Level unlocks more powerful skills that she might acquire during training runs. Each level, up to a maximum of 5, adds a new skill to her potential pool, which can randomly be learned in future playthroughs.How to do it:

Navigate to the Enhance tab from the home screen.

Select Trainee, then Potential Level.

You'll need to use specific materials (sometimes referred to as Dream Glimmers for higher levels) that you earn by playing Career Mode.3 These materials are typically dropped when you complete runs or clear challenges. The required materials will be displayed in the Potential Level menu, and you may need to scroll through the item list to see all requirements for higher levels (levels 4 and 5 often require Dream Glimmers).

The skills unlocked through the Potential Level system can also appear as Legacy skills during inspiration events, making your trainee more versatile and effective in the long run. Prioritizing Potential Level upgrades for frequently used Umamusume like Gold Ship or Agnes Tachyon can be highly beneficial.

2) Increase Star Level

Increasing a trainee’s Star Level provides her with permanent base stat boosts and enhances her unique skill.When you Star Up a character:

• Her base stats (Speed, Stamina, Power, Guts, Wit) become stronger.
• Her unique skill levels up, becoming more potent and effective in races. At 3 stars, characters unlock unique skills that can be inherited by future trainees, and at 5 stars, they often unlock a special unique outfit.

You'll need Star Pieces to do this. Star Pieces are a vital currency and can be obtained from several sources:

• Story missions: Completing certain story objectives.
• Event rewards: Participating in and winning limited-time events, such as Legend Races (which can offer up to 10 Star Pieces as a First Win Bonus).
• Shop purchases: Star Pieces can sometimes appear in the Daily Sales shop (unlocked after completing three non-Career races), purchasable with Monies. They may also be available in the Friend Point Exchange or Club Points Exchange shops.
• Duplicates from gacha pulls (most common method): When you pull a duplicate character from the gacha, you receive Statues of that Umamusume. These Statues can then be traded for Star Pieces in the game shop's Statue Exchange. Be aware that the cost of Star Pieces for the same character increases with each subsequent purchase.
  • To unlock a new character, you generally need 150 matching Star Pieces.
  • The Star Piece requirements for each star level increase:
    • 2-star: 50 Star Pieces
    • 3-star: 150 Star Pieces
    • 4-star: 350 Star Pieces
    • 5-star: 650 Star Pieces

Investing in the Star Level of your favorite or most frequently used Umamusume will significantly pay off, especially in competitive modes like Legend Races or events with demanding stat requirements. Once a character reaches max Star Level, any additional Star Pieces for that character will convert into Clovers, which can be exchanged for other valuable items.

Umamusume Pretty Derby: Leveling Up Your Support Cards

Support cards, though not always in the spotlight, are equally, if not more,important than trainee enhancements. They directly influence the statsyour trainee gains, the frequency of beneficial events, and the ease ofbuilding friendship bonuses during training.

How to level them up:

From the home screen, go to Enhance > Support Card.

Select any support card you wish to level up.

You will need Monies and Support Points to level up support cards. These two resources are abundant and earnedfrom almost all in-game activities, including Career Mode runs, eventparticipation, and daily logins.

As you level up a support card, you unlock significant benefits:

• A stronger starting friendship bond with the associated Umamusume.
• Better energy and mood boosts during training sessions.
• A higher chance of triggering powerful support events that provide stat gains, skill hints, and other advantages.

Leveling support cards is a low-cost, high-impact way to immediately improve your training results and overall performance.

Uncapping Support Cards (Limit Breaking)

To reach their full potential, support cards must be uncapped (or limit broken). This process raises their maximum level cap, allowing for further upgrades and unlocking more powerful bonuses.

How to uncap a card:

• Use duplicates: The primary method is to use duplicate copies of the same support card.
• Use Support Card Pieces: Alternatively, you can use generic Support Card Pieces (also obtainedthrough various in-game activities or by converting excess supportcards) to uncap them bit by bit.

A support card needs to be uncapped four times to fully max out its potential. Each uncap increases the card's maxlevel and significantly enhances its passive bonuses, making it anessential investment for competitive play.
