Since its initial release nearly two decades ago,
Titan Quest has been a beloved classic in the action RPG genre. Now, its highly anticipated sequel,
Titan Quest 2, promises a host of new features and improvements. While early-access players can already explore the new Masteries and foundational gameplay, many are curious about one of the biggest advertised features: multiplayer. This guide will clarify the current state of multiplayer in
Titan Quest 2 and explain what the
Solo Self-Found option means for your character.
Does Titan Quest 2 Have Multiplayer?
As of its Early Access release,
Titan Quest 2 does not yet have a fully public multiplayer mode. The game's main menu features a multiplayer option, but it is currently inactive for most players. However, a select group of players have been granted access to a private "multiplayer preview server." This is a very early, unstable version of the co-op experience, which lacks polish and may have bugs or performance issues. The developers have stated that multiplayer will be fully integrated into the game in a future update during the Early Access period. The timeline for this is currently vague, but the developers plan to roll out major updates roughly every three months. The game's official website and Steam page confirm that online multiplayer is a core feature, allowing players to team up with friends to face the mythological creatures of ancient Greece. However, for now, most players can only enjoy the single-player experience.
What is Solo Self-Found (SSF) in Titan Quest 2?
When you create a new character, you are given the option to enable Solo Self-Found (SSF). This is a crucial choice that has a permanent effect on that specific character.
- What it Means: A Solo Self-Found character is a self-contained entity. It isprohibited from joining any multiplayer games, and it cannot exchangeitems with other characters (including trading with other players orusing a shared stash). The character's progression and gear are limitedto what it can find on its own.
- Current Functionality: As multiplayer is not yet available to the general public, the SSF option currently has no noticeable effect on gameplay.
- Irreversible Decision: The SSF setting cannot be changed after you create your character. Ifyou want to have the option of playing multiplayer later on, you mustleave the SSF box unchecked when you create your character.
Solo Self-Found is designed for players who enjoy a pure, untaintedchallenge where they must rely solely on their own efforts. If you haveno interest in co-op or trading, enabling SSF offers a dedicatedsingle-player experience. If there is any chance you might want to playwith friends later, make sure to leave the box unmarked.
