However, rushing through the main narrative means overlooking significant optional content, including an entirely new skill tree known as Red Death. As it turns out, the Red Death skill tree is one of the most potent in the game, introducing a host of new mechanics that can profoundly influence your build and combat strategy. This guide will walk you through the process of unlocking the secret Red Death skill tree in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon and highlight some of its most impactful perks. This guide contains spoilers for the Perinde Ac Cadaver side quest in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon. Readers should proceed at their own risk.

Tainted Grail The Fall of Avalon: Unlock the Secret Skill Tree

To unlock the new Red Death skill tree, players must complete a specific side quest named "Perinde Ac Cadaver." This quest becomes accessible upon entering Cuanacht, the game's second major region, after successfully retrieving Excalibur from the Horns of the South.
  • Activate the Quest: Head to the Hospital located in the main town of Cuanacht. You will find Ignatius sitting on a hospital bed.
  • Initiate Dialogue: Talk to Ignatius and progress through his dialogue. At a certain point, he will ask if you wish to become a hollow shell. Select the option: "Yes, I want a mark."
  • Receive the Mark: Ignatius will then brand you with the "Hollow Shell" mark and instruct you to find someone referred to as "The One."
  • How to Find The One

"The One" is situated in an area called the Toll House, located east of the Cuanacht Main Square.
  • Travel to the Toll House: Cross the eastern bridge from the main square. Be prepared to fight your way through numerous Red Death Infected enemies.
  • Ascend the Structure: Upon arriving at the ruined castle-like structure, begin making your way up the stairs, following your quest marker.
  • Locate the Lift: You will eventually find a lift. Interact with its lever to descend.
  • Find The One: Below, you'll discover a cave that contains the Toll House Fast Travel point. "The One" will be found sitting on a chair nearby, covered in spiderwebs.
  • Accept the Task: Engage in a cryptic conversation with "The One." Agree to the task he presents: delivering the "Mark of the Plague" to two individuals.
  • Delivering the Mark to Una

  • Locate Una: Una is found in the Plague-Stricken Zone of the city, close to the main square. Follow your quest marker to pinpoint her location.
  • Give Her the Mark: Talk to Una. During the conversation, you will be given the option to hand her the "Mark of the Plague." Select this option to complete this segment of the quest.
    • Important Note: Giving Una the Mark of the Plague will essentially result in her death within the game, thereby locking you out of the "I'll Be Waiting" side quest.
  • Delivering the Mark to Ignatius

  • Return to the Hospital: After dealing with Una, head back to the Hospital in the main city where you first met Ignatius.
  • Convince Ignatius: When you attempt to deliver the "Mark of the Plague" to him, Ignatius will be reluctant. To convince him, choose the dialogue option: "Don't be afraid. It will happen in your sleep."
  • Return to The One

  • Travel Back: Return to "The One" at the Toll House. You can use the fast travel point in the main square or a camp to quickly reach him.
  • Deliver Final Mark: Give him the final "Mark of the Plague" after going through his dialogue. Upon doing so, you will be teleported to an alternate version of the Island Asylum.
  • Island Asylum Revisited

This version of the Island Asylum is markedly different from the one you explored during the Prologue. The entire area is submerged in blood.
  • Navigate the Flooded Asylum: Continue moving forward through the blood-filled environment.
  • Find the Portal: You will eventually discover a hole in the floor. Drop down into it to find a portal to the Asylum. Interact with this portal.
    • Tip: If you missed it during the Prologue, you can find the "Old Letter" in one of the cells here to initiate the "Unforgettable" quest in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon.
  • Defeat the Plaguewraith: The portal will transport you to a new location where a Plaguewraith boss awaits. Defeat this boss to acquire the Plaguewraith armor set and the Crimson Crusher two-handed weapon.
  • Final Encounter: From this point, simply continue moving forward until you find a woman sitting on a bench on a wooden platform. Engage in all her dialogue.
  • Unlock Skill Tree: Once her dialogue concludes, you will awaken back at the Toll House, and the new Red Death Skill Tree will be successfully unlocked!
    • Quest Rewards: As a reward for completing "Perinde Ac Cadaver," you will also receive 2400 XP and the Prophet armor set.
  • Red Death Skill Tree, Explained

The Red Death Skill Tree is a significant game-changer, particularly forplayers who favor an aggressive playstyle. It is divided into twodistinct branches: Combat and Survival.

    • Combat Branch: Perks in this branch provide stacks of Lament based on every percentage of HP you are currently missing. Initially, you can accumulate a maximum of 100 Lament stacks. As you invest further into this branch, you'll unlock abilities to gain Lament fromadditional sources and increase the maximum stack limit.
    • Survival Branch: This branch focuses on granting two major defensive buffs, enhancing your survivability.

Here are all the skills available in the Red Death skill tree:

Best Skills in the Red Death Skill Tree

The Red Death skill tree offers perks that can significantly boost yourdamage output, but they often come with a substantial risk, as thedamage bonus scales with lower health. Considering the high damageenemies deal later in the game, careful character building is essentialto effectively utilize this skill tree.

That being said, here are some of the most impactful Red Death skills worth prioritizing in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon:

    • Cry In Pain: While the early damage boost is modest, at four points, it provides a1% damage increase for each percentage of HP you are missing. This canlead to massive damage amplification when at low health.
    • Give In And Give Up: Increasing your maximum Lament stacks means you can accumulate a higher damage bonus, especially useful when battling groups of enemies orprolonged boss fights.
    • Weep In Success: If your build is optimized for critical hits, this skill allows you toquickly build up Lament stacks without necessarily having to sacrificeyour health, offering a safer way to gain the damage bonus.
    • Hold Back Tears: This skill ensures that every combat encounter begins with a base stack of Lament. If "Cry in Pain" is maxed, this translates to starting every fight with an immediate 15% damage boost, providing a strong opener.
    • Red Death's Embrace: This is an invaluable safety net, essentially granting you a "secondwind" by preventing death once. It renews after resting at a FueledBonfire, making it an essential defensive perk for any build, especially one that leverages low health.

Tip: After unlocking the Red Death skill tree, you can use an Origin Potion to reallocate your perk points from other trees to fully optimize your build around these new abilities.
