Suikoden II, a masterpiece of the JRPG genre, is renowned for its intricate storyline and the vast array of characters that can join your cause. Among the 108 Stars of Destiny, Hix and Tengaar stand out due to their intertwined quest, a journey that tests their bond and unlocks the coveted "Manhood Ceremony" Achievement/Trophy. This guide will walk you through the steps required to recruit these essential characters, ensuring you achieve the best possible ending.
Prerequisites and Initial Steps
Before embarking on this quest, you must have completed the Two Rivers arc of the main storyline. This unlocks the necessary areas and dialogue options. Once accomplished, proceed to your Headquarters and utilize the boat to travel to Lakewest, located to the west.
Initiating the Quest: The Encounter in Lakewest
Upon arriving in Lakewest, head to the local inn. You'll find Hix and Tengaar engaged in conversation on the right side of the establishment. Engage with them, and if necessary, speak to them twice to trigger a pivotal scene. This conversation will reveal their determination to train and overcome their current challenges, prompting them to rush off to Kobold Village.
- Bonus Dialogue: If you have a character from the original Suikoden in your party, such as Clive, you'll witness unique dialogue exchanges, adding depth to their interaction and providing context for returning players.
The Clash in Kobold Village
Exit Lakewest and journey southwest to Kobold Village. Upon entering, you'll immediately witness Hix and Tengaar in the midst of an argument. Proceed further north into the village to trigger another event, setting the stage for the next phase of the quest.
- The Village Chief's Tent: Enter the Village Chief's tent and watch the ensuing cutscene. This scene is crucial for understanding the predicament and setting the stage for Hix's initial "recruitment."
Hix Joins the Party (Temporarily)
Following the cutscene, engage in dialogue with Hix. Regardless of your dialogue choices, when prompted, select "U-Uh, yeah, sure..." Hix will then join your party. However, it's important to note that he is not fully recruited at this point. The quest to recruit Tengaar must be completed to permanently secure both characters.
The "Unicorn Curse" and the Search for Cures
Tengaar is believed to be afflicted with a "Unicorn Curse," and to fully recruit her, you must gather three items: the Blue Stone, the Red Flower, and the Green Bell.
- Acquiring the Blue Stone:
- Leave Kobold Village and return to your Headquarters.
- Travel south to South Window.
- Enter the item shop and speak with the clerk.
- Return to Kobold Village and converse with the Village Elder. This sequence of events will provide the necessary information regarding the Blue Stone.
- Finding the Red Flower:
- Return to your Headquarters and exit onto the world map.
- Head south and slightly west towards the Cave of the Wind.
- Enter the cave, and the Red Flower will be visible almost immediately.
- Complete the conversation, and return back to Kobold Village.
- Securing the Green Bell:
- Travel to Two Rivers and enter the Wingers' District.
- Ascend the steps, take the first right, and enter the sewers.
- Navigate the sewers, crossing two bridges, then head south and cross two more bridges.
- Observe the Kobold dropping the Green Bell, which Hix will retrieve.
- Return to Kobold Village.
Venturing into Unicorn Woods
With all three items in hand, exit the Village Chief's tent and enterUnicorn Woods via the stairs on the right. Navigate the woods using thefollowing directions:
- Head north until you reach a split path.
- Take the west path.
- Proceed east into the next area.
- Follow the path into the next area.
- At the fork, take the bottom path and follow it to find Tengaar and the kobolds.
The Final Recruitment and "Manhood Ceremony"
Watch the cutscene unfold. When Tengaar asks to join your party, select "Ofcourse!" to recruit her. With both Hix and Tengaar now permanentlyrecruited, you'll unlock the "Manhood Ceremony" Achievement/Trophy, atestament to your dedication and completion of this intricate quest.
Key Considerations
- Suiko Map: The Suiko Map is highly recommended for efficient travel across the world map, significantly reducing travel time.
- Dialogue Choices: While some dialogue choices offer unique insights, the critical selections for recruitment are clearly indicated.
- Patience and Persistence: This quest involves a significant amount of back-and-forth travel, so patience and persistence are essential.
By following this detailed guide, you'll successfully recruit Hix andTengaar, adding two valuable Stars of Destiny to your ranks andunlocking a rewarding achievement in Suikoden II.
