Recruiting all five flying squirrels in Suikoden 2 HD Remaster isn’t necessarily difficult, but it can be time-consuming—especially if you don’t know where to look. Each of these adorable party members has a specific recruitment method, with the first one even counting toward the coveted
108 Stars of Destiny.
Whether you're aiming for the best ending or just want a full squad of cute, battle-ready squirrels, this guide will walk you through finding
Mukumuku, Makumaku, Mikumiku, Mekumeku, and Mokumoku efficiently.
Why Recruit the Flying Squirrels in Suikoden 2?
Before diving into their locations, let’s talk about why these fluffy recruits matter:
- Mukumuku is a Star of Destiny, essential for unlocking the best ending.
- The other four squirrels are fun, unique party members with their own quirks.
- They add charm to your army and are a must for completionists.
Now, let’s break down where and how to find each one.
1. Mukumuku – The First & Most Important Squirrel
Recruitment Window: Early game, right after returning to
Kyaro Town (before reuniting with Nanami).
How to Recruit:
Head to Genkaku’s Dojo in Kyaro.Look for a distinctive lone tree to the north (different from surrounding trees).Examine the tree three times—Mukumuku will drop down and join your party at level 2.Missed Your Chance?
If you skip this step, Mukumuku can still appear randomly while traveling between
Greenhill and the Muse/Greenhill border, provided you have an open party slot.
2. The Remaining Four Squirrels – Recruiting in Order
After Mukumuku, the next four squirrels must be recruited in sequence while exploring the world map. For faster travel, bring Stallion (increases movement speed).
Recruitment Order & Locations:
Makumaku- Where: Random battles along the path between Greenhill and Two River City.
- Tip: Keep a party slot open and walk back and forth until a battle triggers their appearance.
Mikumiku- Where: Random battles between Greenhill and Forest Village.
- Requirement: Must have Makumaku first.
Mekumeku- Where: Random battles between Greenhill and the Forest Path to Matilda.
- Requirement: Must have Mikumiku first.
Mokumoku (Final Squirrel)- Where: Forest area south of Forest Village.
- Requirement: Must have Mekumeku first.
Pro Tip: Reset the RNG
If a squirrel isn’t appearing after many battles, try:
- Entering a town and exiting again to "reset" the random encounter rate.
- Patience—some squirrels take longer to spawn than others.
Final Thoughts
Recruiting all five flying squirrels in Suikoden 2 HD Remaster is a rewarding side quest that adds depth (and cuteness) to your playthrough. While Mukumuku is the only Star of Destiny, the others are still worth collecting for fun and completion.
Follow this guide, keep a party slot open, and soon you’ll have a full squad of squirrels ready for battle!
