Firefly Studios continues to impress fans with their remastered RTS classics, following Stronghold: Definitive Edition with Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition. This updated version brings enhanced visuals, smoother gameplay, and new content—all at a budget-friendly price.
However, one notable omission is the lack of an in-game language setting. If you're playing on Steam and need to switch languages, you’ll have to do it through the Steam client. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you change the language settings quickly.
How to Change the Language in Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition
Since the game doesn’t include an in-game language selector, you’ll need to adjust it via Steam:
Open Steam and go to your Library.Right-click Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition and select Properties. In the General tab, locate the Language dropdown menu.Select your preferred language from the list.Once you’ve made your selection, Steam will automatically download the necessary language files (if applicable). Restart the game, and your chosen language will be applied.
Supported Languages in Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition
The game offers a wide range of language options, though not all include full audio dubbing. Below is the complete list of supported languages:
Interface | Full Audio | Subtitles |
---|
English | English | English |
French | French | French |
Italian | Italian | Italian |
German | German | German |
Spanish | Spanish | Spanish |
Czech | – | Czech |
Dutch | – | Dutch |
Hungarian | Hungarian | Hungarian |
Japanese | – | Japanese |
Korean | – | Korean |
Polish | Polish | Polish |
Portuguese (Brazil) | Portuguese (Brazil) | Portuguese (Brazil) |
Russian | Russian | Russian |
Simplified Chinese | – | Simplified Chinese |
Swedish | – | – |
Thai | – | Thai |
Traditional Chinese | – | Traditional Chinese |
Turkish | – | Turkish |
Ukrainian | – | Ukrainian |
Arabic | – | Arabic |
Will Firefly Studios Add an In-Game Language Option?
While the current method works, it would be much more convenient if FireflyStudios added an in-game language switcher in a future update. Manyplayers may not realize they can change the language through Steam, especially if the game defaults to an unfamiliar language.
That said, the extensive language support—including nine fully voiced options—is impressive. It’s unlikely that more languages will be added post-launch due to the additional development work required.
Still Prefer the Original? The HD Version Remains Available
Unlike some remasters that replace older versions, Stronghold Crusader HD (2012) is still available on Steam. If you prefer the classicexperience over the Definitive Edition’s changes, you can always revisit the original.
Final Thoughts
Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition is a fantastic upgrade for fans of the classic RTS, but thelanguage-switching process could be more user-friendly. Hopefully,Firefly Studios will address this in a future patch. In the meantime,Steam’s language settings provide a reliable workaround.
