What is Government Database?
The Government Database is only housed within the Employee Lounge of a City Hall, that serves as the center of each city. To find City Hall, click the magnifying glass icon of the Detective Notebook and type "city." Click any of the many City Hall locations and plot a course toward it.
Once inside City Hall, find the side room off of the front desk. Inside this room is a Micro Cruncher containing the Government Database. This room isn't locked down, and you're free to break in and hack into the PC for the passcode. This computer also houses surveillance footage in City Hall and both the Employee and Government Databases.
It is a powerful tool in the hands of detectives investigating crimes within the city because the Government Database will be fully representative of information about people, businesses, and government officials. By accessing the Government Database, detectives can trace suspects, recognize potential witnesses, and find substantial evidence to solve the case.
First, one needs to get a passcode in order to get into the Government Database. Passcodes can be found almost anywhere around the city: in the Police Station, in the mayor's office, even in the local newspaper. A passcode is entered via the Micro Cruncher when detectives obtain it, hence accessing the Government Database.
It is a powerful tool that can solve all kinds of crimes. However, the Government Database is also a serious tool that has to be used responsibly. Access to the Government Database should be given to detectives only when there is a real need for it, and sensitive information should never be disclosed to unauthorized people.
How to access the Government Database?
Getting into the Government Database in Shadows of Doubt is a bit of a fiddle-especially when you're playing through a city that has been generated procedurally. Sometimes, there's a clue to the passcode nearby, but sometimes not. Then you're just lost and frustrated, as you actually really want to get going on your investigation.
You can do one of two things:
- Acquire a Codebreaker: It can be purchased from City Hall with the price of 75 credits. Using it, you shall be able to crack the security in the Micro Cruncher and gain access to the Government Database. It's easy and pretty harmless, since it involves only an initial investment.
- Sneak into the Employee-Only Lounge: This one is significantly riskier, as it borders on trespassing and a guard may coincidentally pop up. Now, if you're feeling adventurous and confident in your abilities, you can try to sneak into the restricted area. Once inside, find an employee code in one of the cubicles. This might require some effort, as the codes are often hidden or obscured. After you have obtained a code, you will gain access to an employee Micro Cruncher, allowing you to enter the database. However, this option is fraught with danger, and if you're caught, you could face serious consequences.
Given the potential risks and complications of the latter option, it's usually a good idea to wait until you have enough money for a Codebreaker, that way you will be able to access the Government Database without the risk of being caught/injured. It might take some time to gather the credits, but well worth the investment since it will save you a load of headaches.
How to use the Government Database in Shadows of Doubt?
The Government Database provides a means to research anything. It has a full profile on every one of the city's residents, including name, address, blood type, and physical description. In order to find this information, one would have to search through the database in alphabetical order, opening their profiles and manually printing out all the relevant information for future reference. This may be a rather tedious procedure; however, it will save you tons of time in the future.
Once you have a printed record, you will be able to pin the profiles on your detective board for quick reference. You can also take further notes by using the post-it note icon next to your case names. You may then compare fingerprints, footprints, and other evidence from the crime scene against the database to narrow it down and come up with a short list of potential suspects.
You will begin to narrow down your search and potentially identify the perpetrator as you merge this database information with surveillance footage, victim or criminal memos, and workplace notes. Government Database: This is the backbone of an investigation, offering very valuable information concerning the residents of your city.
