Early in your adventure in RuneScape: Dragonwilds, the NPC Zanik will give you a tutorial quest called "Rune Mysteries." This quest tasks you with gathering Rune Essence and then using it at a Rune Altar to craft Air Runes and Astral Runes. Many players find themselves stuck on this quest, unsure of where to locate a Rune Altar. However, the solution is quite straightforward. Here's how to complete the Rune Mysteries quest:

How to Build a Rune Altar in RuneScape: Dragonwilds:

The key to completing the Rune Mysteries quest is that you need to build the Rune Altar yourself. It is not a pre-existing structure that you need to find in the world.

Access the Build Menu: Open your building interface in RuneScape: Dragonwilds. This is typically done by pressing a designated key (e.g., "B" by default).

Locate the Rune Altar: Within the build menu, the Rune Altar is considered a crafting station for magic. You will find it in the same general area as your other crafting tables (like the Crafting Table). Look for an icon that visually represents a magical altar or runes.

Gathering the Required Materials:

To construct the Rune Altar, you will need the following materials:

• 12 Stone: Stone can be obtained in a couple of ways in the early game:
  • Picking up small rocks: These are often scattered across the ground in various areas.
  • Mining larger boulders: Use a pickaxe (which you likely obtained early in the tutorial) to mine larger rock formations.
• 4 Rune Essence: Zanik will instruct you to gather Rune Essence from glowing rocks near Rune sites. Conveniently, there is a Rune Essence deposit located very close to Zanik's initial position. You won't have to travel far to collect what you need. Simply look forthe interactable glowing rocks in her vicinity and mine them.

Constructing the Rune Altar:

Once you have gathered 12 Stone and 4 Rune Essence:

Open the Build Menu (if it's not already open).

Select the Rune Altar from the crafting station options.

Choose a suitable open space to place the Rune Altar. Ensure it's on relatively even ground.

Confirm the placement. The required Stone and Rune Essence will be consumed from your inventory, and the Rune Altar will be built.

Crafting Air Runes and Astral Runes:

With your newly constructed Rune Altar:

Interact with the Rune Altar. This will open the Rune crafting interface.

Craft Air Runes: You should see the recipe for Air Runes available. It will likelyrequire Rune Essence. Craft a few Air Runes as per Zanik's request.

Craft Astral Runes: Similarly, locate the recipe for Astral Runes. This will also require Rune Essence. Craft the required number of Astral Runes.

Completing the Rune Mysteries Quest:

Once you have crafted the Air Runes and Astral Runes:

Return to Zanik.

Speak with her and deliver the Runes.

Upon giving Zanik the Air Runes and Astral Runes, the Rune Mysteries questwill be completed. Zanik will then instruct you to meet an old man at anearby abandoned settlement. This next step marks the true beginning ofyour larger adventure in RuneScape: Dragonwilds, where the initialtutorial quests have equipped you with the fundamental knowledge neededto survive in the dangerous lands of Ashenfall. Be prepared for morechallenging zones and even encounters with fearsome dragons as youcontinue to master your skills and acquire new gear.
