This guide will break down the steps to acquire Padded Cloth.

RuneScape Dragonwilds: How to Get Padded Cloth

Padded Cloth isn't found directly; it's created by combining Wool Cloth and Rough Cloth at a Loom. However, a standard Loom only has one input slot, so you'll also need to craft a Loom Harness to process both cloths simultaneously. Building the Loom Harness requires resources from more dangerous areas, making this a key progression point.

The Loom Harness Bottleneck:

The Loom Harness, an upgrade for your Loom that enables dual-material processing, is theprimary obstacle for most players aiming for Padded Cloth. Here's how to obtain the components to build it:

  • Smelting Iron Bars: The first crucial step is to acquire Iron Bars.

    • Iron Ore Location: Iron Ore deposits are exclusively found in the Stormtouched Highlands, located west of the Fractured Plains.
    • Border Farming Spot: Thankfully, there are numerous Iron Ore veins situated right along theborder between the Stormtouched Highlands and the Fractured Plains. This allows for relatively quick access without venturing too deep into themore dangerous Highlands initially. The provided map (which I don't have access to visually) likely marks this advantageous farming location.
    • Efficient Mining: Utilizing the Rocksplosion spell can significantly speed up the process of gathering Iron Ore from these veins, minimizing your exposure to potential threats.
    • Smelting Iron: Unlike Bronze Bars (which require both Copper and Tin), Iron Bars only require Iron Ore to be smelted in a Furnace (which requires Clay and Charcoal to operate, as mentioned in previous guides).
  • Gathering Ram Horns: Another essential ingredient for the Loom Harness is Ram Horns.

    • Ram Location: To obtain Ram Horns, you will need to venture deep into the Fractured Plains and hunt Rams.2 These creatures inhabit this region.
  • Acquiring Ash Planks: The Loom Harness also requires Ash Planks.3

    • Sawmill Requirement: To produce Ash Planks, you first need to build a Sawmill. The Sawmill blueprint is likely unlocked through early progression andrequires Ash Logs (obtained by chopping down Ash Trees) and potentiallyother basic materials.
  • Building the Loom Harness: Once you have acquired sufficient Iron Bars, Ram Horns, and have afunctional Sawmill to produce Ash Planks (the exact recipe for the LoomHarness will be revealed in your crafting menu once you have some of the necessary materials), you can craft the Loom Harness at a suitablecrafting station (likely a Workbench).


    • Crafting Padded Cloth:

    With the Loom Harness attached to your Loom, you can now process Wool Cloth and Rough Cloth simultaneously to create Padded Cloth:

  • Produce Wool Cloth: Wool Cloth is made at a Spinning Wheel using Soft Animal Fur (dropped by various animals) or, more efficiently, Fleece (obtained by shearing sheep).4
  • Produce Rough Cloth: Rough Cloth is also made at a Spinning Wheel, using Coarse Animal Fur (dropped by various animals) or, more efficiently, Flax (found growing in certain areas).
  • Combine at the Loom: Place both Wool Cloth and Rough Cloth into the input slots of your upgraded Loom (with the Loom Harness attached). The Loom will then process these into Padded Cloth.


    • Further Progression: Upgrading the Tannery:

    At this stage of the game, as you are acquiring resources from more challenging areas, it's also highly recommended to consider upgrading your Tannery. Upgrading the Tannery will unlock the ability to process Leather into Hard Leather, which is a crucial material for crafting even stronger armor pieces,providing you with better protection against the tougher enemies you'llencounter in regions like the Stormtouched Highlands and the deeperFractured Plains.
