In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, the enigmatic Galarian Slowpoke is a true collector's prize. As the sole regional variant introduced in the game, and available only once per save file, evolving it is a decision you won't want to take lightly. This guide will walk you through every step, from acquiring this rare Pokémon to choosing its final evolution.
Step 1: Securing Your Galarian Slowpoke
Before you can even think about evolution, your first task is to add the Galarian Slowpoke to your team.
Catch a Regular Slowpoke: Your journey begins in Wild Zone 11, where you can find and catch a standard Slowpoke. This is a non-negotiable prerequisite.Progress the Story: You must advance through the main narrative until you complete Main Mission 14: Canari Quiz Contest.Find the Key NPC: With that mission done, travel to Wild Zone 10 in South Boulevard. Look for an NPC named Quille.Make the Trade: Speak to Quille to initiate Secondary Mission Nº39: Slowpoke for Slowpoke. Here, you'll trade your regular Slowpoke for his unique Galarian Slowpoke.Congratulations! The rare Pokémon is now yours. But the journey to its final form is just beginning.
Step 2: Unlocking the Evolution Items
Galarian Slowpoke doesn't evolve by leveling up. It requires specific,hard-to-find items reminiscent of its home in the Galar region:
- Galarica Cuff to evolve into Galarian Slowbro.
- Galarica Wreath to evolve into Galarian Slowking.
Here’s how you can obtain both items in Lumiose City:
Head to Vert Sector 9's Battle Court, located near Wild Zone 1.Seek out a young traveler named Touri. She'll explain she's visited the Isle of Armor and challenges you to a battle to show off her rare Pokémon.Accept Side Mission Nº 75: 'Some Unusual Pokemon' and defeat her team, which features both Galarian Slowbro and Galarian Slowking.Upon your victory, Touri will reward you with both the Galarica Cuff and the Galarica Wreath, giving you the power to choose your evolution path. The Final Choice: Galarian Slowbro vs. Galarian Slowking
With both items in hand, you face the game's big question: which evolution is right for you? Both become Poison/Psychic types, a significant shift from the standard Water/Psychic, but they excel in different areas.
- Choose Galarian Slowbro if: You need a resilient physical wall for your team. Slowbro boasts high Physical Defense and HP, allowing it to absorb physical hits with ease. It also maintains a solid Special Attack stat for dealing damage.
- Choose Galarian Slowking if: You prefer a special tank with more versatility. Slowking shines with exceptional Special Defense and HP, making it a fortress against special attackers. It also has a slightedge in movepool diversity, being able to learn a wider range of movesvia TMs.
Important Consideration: Unlike the regular Kantonian Slowbro, neither of these Galarian forms can Mega Evolve in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. This limits their competitive potential, so the choice ultimately comes down to your personal team composition and aesthetic preference.
Since this is your only Galarian Slowpoke, choose the evolution that bestcomplements your squad and that you’d most enjoy having on youradventure through Lumiose City
