Sometimes you will want to reset the map instance, creating a fresh version of the map, or just because you want to start anew and continue farming, which is often the case during a campaign. Learn how to reset map instances in Path of Exie 2, whether through a PC or a console.
How to reset map instances in Path of Exile 2?
PC
The process to reset your map instance in a PC with a keyboard and mouse is much more straightforward as compared to being on a console. It really is very simple to do: Just hold down the Left Control key on your keyboard and left-click on the area node for the location you want to reset. Open the Instance Manager to easily create a new instance with just a click. While you can't reset an existing one, the process of creating a new one is practically identical.
Click to enter the area, and you will be taken to a screen where you can choose which instance you want to enter. Your new instance will be one of the top ones listed in the Instance Manager for ease of access.
How to Reset Map Instances on Xbox and PlayStation
This will also work on PC with a controller, but generally, this is the way to reset map instances on console, especially on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. It's got a few more steps than on PC, but it's pretty simple. To reset the instances on console, do the following:
- Enter and interact with any Waypoint to bring up the map.
- Go to the location in which you want the instance reset, and hold down the interact button.
- For Xbox, this is 'A'. For PlayStation, the button to interact is 'X'.
- The Instance Manager window will open, listing all the instances you currently have open for that instance.
- In order to start a new instance, click the 'New Instance' button.
- When dealing with many instances, make sure to select which one you'd like to walk into, as the newest instance will show up closest to the top.
For Path of Exile 2 players on both PC and Console, remember that for you, newly created instances will only stay open for 8-15 minutes if you are not in them. Make sure to go back to your existing instance before the eight-minute mark if you are going to AFK or have several instances open. Timing is everything! An existing instance that closes is gone forever, and with it, any potential loot drops, map progression, or boss encounters you might have had in mind.
While you can instantiate new versions of any map that contains combat or enemies, note that you cannot create instanced versions of hubs or settlements. The servers of Path of Exile 2 create and manage these main hub areas automatically, distributing players across the instances efficiently so that no single instance is overwhelmed or feels deserted. For instance, when you leave a place and get back, you will find other players in your place.
A new instance of a map will reset the layout, enemy encounters, loot, and incomplete quests. However, once you complete a quest, it will lock in your progress, and you cannot reset it in order to attempt the quest again. When you have completed a quest, it stays permanently finished and cannot be reset or attempted again with a new instance.
