Talismans are a unique type of socketable item in Path of Exile 2 that, like Soul Cores, have a specific condition that must be met for them to drop. While the game introduces this concept during an Act 1 quest, this guide will provide a more detailed explanation of how Talismans work.

Path of Exile 2: How to Get Talismans

Talismans have a specific drop condition:

• Drop from Azmerian Wisp Empowered Monsters: Talismans only drop from monsters that are empowered by Azmerian Wisps.
  • Azmerian Wisps: These are special encounters found throughout the campaign and in the endgame. They appear as wispy entities that attach to rare monsters, significantly buffing them and making them more challenging to defeat.
  • Corresponding Talisman Types: The type of Talisman that drops is directly related to the type of Azmerian Wisp empowering the monster. For example, a monster empowered by a Bear Azmerian Wisp will drop a Bear Talisman, a Fox Azmerian Wisp will drop a Fox Talisman, and so on.
• Guaranteed Wisp Encounters (Endgame): For players in the endgame, the 'Guiding Light' Atlas node guarantees the chance of an Azmerian Wisp appearing in every map you run. Furthermore, nearby Atlas nodes can further increase this chance.
• Currency Exchange (Player Trading): As an alternative to farming, you can also acquire specific Talismans you need by trading with other players through the Currency Exchange (by talking to Alva in your Hideout). However, it's important to note that Talismans are significantly more expensive than Runes, so acquiring them through trading can be a costly endeavor.

How to Use Talismans in PoE 2

Talismans function similarly to Runes and Soul Cores in that they are socketedinto empty slots on your gear to provide flat stat bonuses. However,there's a crucial difference:

• Gear Type Restriction: Unlike Runes and Soul Cores, Talismans can only be used on specific types of gear that correspond to the Talisman type.
  • Example: A Bear Talisman can only be socketed into Helmets. Attempting to place it into a Body Armor will always fail.
  • Identifying Compatible Gear: You can easily determine which type of gear a Talisman can be used on by reading its description. The description will clearly state the compatible gear slot (e.g.,"Helmets: ...", "Gloves: ...", "Body Armors: ...", "Boots: ...").
• Permanent Socketing (Replacement Only): Once a Talisman is socketed into a piece of gear, it cannot be removed. The only way to change the Talisman in that slot is to replace it with another Talisman, Rune, or Soul Core. The previously socketed item will be destroyed in the process.
