The key to developing skill gems by adding support gem slots to them is obtaining Jeweller's Orbs. The Jeweller's Orbs come in three different forms: the Lesser Jeweller's Orb, the Greater Jeweller's Orb, and the Perfect Jeweller's Orb.
The Lesser Jeweller's Orb adds a third support gem socket. The Greater Jeweller's Orb adds the 4th, and the Perfect Jeweller's Orb adds the 5th. You'll need all three levels; you can't skip any if you wish to fully upgrade your skill gem. Get a Jeweller's Orb and use it on one of your skill gems in your skill gem window.

Path of Exile 2 Jeweller's Orbs Farming Explanation
You will rarely happen upon a Jeweller's Orb. You can expect to come across a Lesser Jeweller's Orb while in the endgame rather commonly; indeed, you may find yourself blessed with one even while leveling through the campaign. Expect the Greater and Perfect varieties to take some time.
This will give you a drop rate of roughly once in 100+ high-tier maps for the Greater Jeweller's Orb and roughly twice or even three times as many maps for a Perfect Jeweller's Orb. You can farm the highest-tier map available to increase your chances of finding these.
Every one of these Jeweller’s Orbs is available for trade. Utilize the official Path of Exile 2 trade site, or take advantage of the in-game Currency Exchange, as it is indeed a form of currency.
Currently, a Perfect Jeweller’s Orb is priced at an astonishing 142 Exalted Orbs, whereas the Greater Jeweller’s Orb is available for approximately 28 Exalted Orbs. Nonetheless, these prices can experience significant fluctuations. Just for comparison, three days ago, before the Perfect Jeweller's Orb hit 142 Exalted Orbs, it was sitting at about 78. It has been sitting at around 140 Exalted Orbs now, but just remember how quickly this can change.
Since targeting Jeweller's Orbs is out of the question, your best course of action would be to use currency farming strategies that maximize your currency gains. Exchange all of your items for Exalted Orbs and hoard them until you have enough to buy the Greater and Perfect Jeweller's Orb.
