How to find Varon Vamori in Oblivion Remastered
Pinpointing Varon Vamori's Location
Your initial task is to locate the elusive Varon Vamori. Kud-Ei, the head of the Bravil Mage's Guild, holds the key to this information. To trigger the correct quest update and marker, engage Kud-Ei in conversation and inquire about the "Guild Recommendation." Subsequently, delve into the topics of "Varon Vamori" and the "Mage's Staff." This specific dialogue sequence is crucial for the quest to progress smoothly and for the game to accurately pinpoint Varon's whereabouts on your map.
However, should you encounter a bug where your quest journal fails to update or the objective marker remains elusive, fret not. Varon Vamori frequents the Silverhome on The Water, a local inn in Bravil. He can often be found idling there for a significant portion of the day, lost in his romantic pursuits.
Alternatively, you can employ a more predictable method. Varon maintains a daily routine that brings him directly to the Bravil Mage's Guild. He arrives promptly at 8 am each morning, hoping to engage Ardaline in conversation, and remains there until approximately 10 am. Waiting within the guild hall during this timeframe will guarantee an encounter with the amorous Dark Elf.
Securing the Recommendation: A Dance of Disposition and Deception
Once you've located Varon and initiated conversation, your goal is to glean information about the missing Mage's Staff. Kud-Ei will provide you with a Beguile Scroll, a helpful tool that grants a temporary +10 boost to the target's Disposition upon casting.
Engage Varon in conversation, specifically inquiring about Ardaline and theStaff. If he proves evasive or unwilling to discuss the matter, itindicates that his Disposition towards you is too low. You'll need toraise it to at least 65. This can be achieved throughthe Persuasion minigame. Engage in conversation, and select dialogueoptions that align with Varon's personality to increase his opinion ofyou. Utilize the Beguile Scroll strategically after attemptingthe Persuasion minigame, as the maximum Disposition achievable throughpersuasion alone might fall short of the required 65.
Once Varon's Disposition is sufficiently high, he will reveal that Soris Arenim in the Imperial City possesses the missing Mage's Staff. Relay thiscrucial information back to Kud-Ei in Bravil. In return, she will equipyou with three additional Beguile Scrolls and dispatch you to theImperial City.
Your next objective is to locate Soris Arenim within the Imperial City. Upon finding him, you'll need to persuade him to part with the Staff.Similar to your interaction with Varon, Soris will require a highDisposition – at least 70 – before he entertains theidea of relinquishing the artifact. Again, engage in the Persuasionminigame first to maximize your initial Disposition increase, and thenutilize the Beguile Scrolls to reach the necessary threshold.
With a Disposition of 70 or higher, Soris will present you with a buyout offer of 200 Gold for the Staff. You now face a choice:
- The Direct Approach: Pay Soris the 200 Gold to acquire the Mage's Staff directly.
- The Subterfuge Route: Alternatively, a high Disposition with Erissare, Soris' wife, can unlock a clandestine method of obtaining the Staff. If Erissare trusts you, she will reveal that the Staff is hidden within a chest of drawers in their basement. You can then choose to break into the basement to retrieve it. The key to the basement can be pickpocketed from either Soris or Erissare, or it can be found on Soris' desk in his bedroom.
Once you have successfully acquired the Mage's Staff, your final task is toreturn it to Kud-Ei in the Bravil Mage's Guild. As a reward for yourefforts and successful navigation of Varon's romantic entanglements,Kud-Ei will bestow upon you the Captivate Spell, auseful enchantment that grants a +10 Charm effect on touch. With theMage's Staff recovered and delivered, the Bravil Recommendation will beyours, paving the way for your acceptance into the prestigious ArcaneUniversity.
