Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a faithful recreation of the classic, and that includes its most memorable and hidden moments. Among these is a secret cutscene featuring Johnny Sasaki, the grandfather of the series' recurring comic relief. Unlocking this moment is a rewarding experience for fans, and it also provides a crucial piece of information for your escape from the Groznyj Grad prison. This guide will walk you through the precise steps to unlock this special scene, including a faster alternative method, to ensure you don't miss out on this classic Metal Gear Solid moment.

MGS Delta Snake Eater: unlock the Johnny cut scene

Part 1: Setting the Scene in Groznyj Grad

To unlock the secret cutscene, you must first progress the main storyline until Snake is captured and tortured by Colonel Volgin. After you've been thrown into the prison cell, your immediate goal is to escape, and Johnny Sasaki is your unwitting key. He will patrol the hallway outside your cell, occasionally pausing to interact with you.

Part 2: The Three-Part Food Puzzle

The core of this secret side quest is a three-part exchange with Johnny. He will throw food into your cell, and you must throw it back at him each time.
  • The First Exchange: After a short period of waiting, Johnny will stop and toss a ration or some other food item through the hole in your cell door. To trigger the first part of the puzzle, you must:
    • Pick it Up: Walk over to the food item on the floor and pick it up.
    • Equip it: Open your backpack and equip the food.
    • Throw it Back: Aim through the gap in your cell door and throw the food back at him. A key detail is that the food must land outside the cell for the action to register. When you do this correctly, Johnny will say, "What? You don't want this?" This confirms that you have completed the first step.
  • The Second and Third Exchanges: After a period of waiting, Johnny will patrol back and repeat the action, throwing a second piece of food into your cell. You must repeat the exact same process: pick it up, equip it, and throw it back. He will then do it a third and final time. Make sure you throw the third piece of food back at him as well.
  • After the third successful throw, Johnny will decide to eat the food himself. As a long-standing joke in the Metal Gear series, this will lead to him running off to the toilet with a stomach ache. Once he returns, the cutscene will automatically trigger.

Part 3: The Family Photo and The Codec Frequency

The cutscene is a touching and humorous moment where Johnny shares hisfamily's history with Snake. He’ll show Snake a picture of his family, which is the key to escaping your cell.

    • R1 to Zoom In: When the prompt appears on the screen, press the R1 button to look at the family photo from a first-person perspective.
    • The Secret Code: On the back of the photo, you will see a small, handwritten note thatcontains the Codec frequency needed to unlock your cell door. Thefrequency is 144.75. Make sure you jot this down somewhere or tune your Codec to it immediately.

Part 4: The Faster Method: Guy Savage

If you're not a fan of waiting around for Johnny to throw three separaterations, there is a much faster way to trigger the cutscene.

    • Endure the Torture: When you are being tortured by Volgin, do not give in. Endure thetorture until the screen goes black and the "Guy Savage" mini-gamebegins.
    • Return to the Cell: Once the mini-game is over, you will wake up in your cell to find two rations of food already on the floor.
    • The Final Throw: Johnny will then patrol to your cell and throw a third piece of food. You can simply pick up and throw back all three of the food items toquickly trigger the cutscene without the long waiting periods.

Whether you choose to unlock the cutscene through the traditional route or thefaster Guy Savage method, it is a memorable part of the game that youwon't want to miss. Not only does it provide a rewarding narrativemoment, but it also gives you the key you need to continue your escape.
