MGS Delta Snake Eater: unlock the FOXHOUND title

The FOXHOUND Requirements

When you complete a playthrough, your performance is graded based on a series of strict conditions. To earn the FOXHOUND title, you must meet all of the following:
  • Difficulty: Complete the game on Extreme or European Extreme.
  • Continues: Zero (0). If you die, you must reload your save.
  • Alert Phases: Zero (0). An alert is when a guard spots you and a red exclamation mark appears above their head.
  • Human Kills: Zero (0). You cannot kill a single human enemy.
  • Play Time: Under five (5) hours.
  • Total Damage Taken: Less than five (5) full LIFE bars.
  • Serious Injuries: Less than twenty (20).
  • Special Item Usage: Zero (0). You cannot use the EZ Gun, Stealth Camo, Infinity Face Paint, or LIFE medicine.

Mastering the Extreme Difficulty

Playing on Extreme difficulty is the foundation of a FOXHOUND run, and it completely changes the gameplay experience:

  • Enhanced Enemies: Guards have significantly sharper vision and hearing, making stealthmuch harder. Patrol routes are also denser, requiring careful planningto slip by unnoticed.
  • Punishing Combat: Bosses have greatly increased health and deal punishing amounts of damage, turning encounters into endurance battles.
  • Scarce Resources: Ammunition drops are severely reduced, forcing you to rely onnon-lethal CQC takedowns. Wildlife, your primary source of staminarecovery, is also harder to find.
  • European Extreme: This difficulty takes the challenge even further. A single alert means instant mission failure, with no chance to recover.

Essential Strategies for a FOXHOUND Run

This is not a casual playthrough; it is a speedrun with stealthrequirements. Every decision must be deliberate, and a single mistakecan end the run.

1. Preparation and New Game+

This challenge is best attempted on a New Game+ save file. The ability to carry over key items makes the run far more manageable.

  • Crucial Camouflages: Unlock the Spider Camo by defeating The Fear non-lethally and the Ghillie Suit by shooting all 64 Ga-Ko frogs. The Spider Camo provides a highcamouflage index but drains stamina, so use it sparingly. The GhillieSuit doubles your camo bonus, making you nearly invisible in most areas.
  • Strategic Loadout: Stick to the Mk22 tranquilizer pistol as your primary weapon. This will ensure that any enemy loot drops arefor Mk22 ammo, which is crucial for boss fights and long-rangetakedowns.

2. Time Management

Every second counts toward your five-hour limit.

  • The Pause Menu: The in-game timer only stops when you are in the pause menu. The quick menus, inventory, and radio calls do not pause the timer, so skip all cutscenes and keep radio chatter to an absolute minimum.
  • Save and Reload: Save frequently, especially at the start of each new area. If you make a mistake—get an alert, take a hit, or accidentally get akill—immediately pause the game and reload your save. This is the onlyway to avoid a mission failure and will save you from having to restartthe entire run.

3. Tactical Discipline

  • Non-Lethal is Mandatory: The no-kill requirement means your Mk22 and CQC are your best friends.Practice non-lethal takedowns until you can perform them flawlessly.
  • Resource Management: Suppressors are a limited resource. You will find them in key locations like the Ponizovje Warehouse. Do not waste them on enemies you can take down with CQC.
  • Prioritize Stealth Over Speed: While the time limit is strict, rushing will almost always lead to analert or an injury. Take a moment to observe patrol routes and plan your path. A quick, clean run is always better than a fast, sloppy one.
