In Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, obtaining resources is not as simple as walking over a body. To gather ammo, food, and crucial items, you must actively interact with knocked-out or held-up enemies. Understanding these mechanics is essential for a successful run, as it provides a way to resupply without breaking stealth or compromising your position. There are two primary methods for looting enemies in the game.

MGS Delta Snake Eater: How to loot enemies

Method 1: Looting From a Body

This is the most direct way to get items from an enemy you have already dealt with. It works on both killed and knocked-out guards, but the rewards differ significantly.Lethal vs. Non-Lethal Loot:
  • Lethal Takedown: If you kill an enemy with a lethal weapon (like a gun or a knife), they will typically drop only one loot item.
  • Non-Lethal Takedown: If you knock an enemy out using CQC, tranquilizer darts, or other non-lethal means, they will often drop two loot items. This makes the non-lethal approach much more rewarding for resource collection.
How to Perform:
  • After knocking out or killing an enemy, get close to their body.
  • Press and hold the Action button (Square on PlayStation / X on Xbox) to pick up the body.
  • As soon as the pick-up animation begins, release the button. The guard's body will drop, and any items they were carrying will pop out and land on the ground next to them.
  • You can then manually pick up the items.
  • Method 2: The Hold-Up Tactic

The hold-up tactic is a highly effective way to get loot whilekeeping your enemies neutralized without knocking them out. This methodrelies entirely on stealth.

    How to Perform:

  • Stalk Your Target: Approach the enemy from behind without being seen. Use the Stalk button (L1 on PlayStation / LB on Xbox) to move silently.
  • Aim Your Weapon: Once you are directly behind the guard, aim your weapon at their back. They will immediately say "Freeze!" and put their hands up in surrender.
  • Command Them to Drop Loot: While keeping your weapon aimed at the enemy, move around to theirfront. Now, aim your weapon directly at their head or their groin. Thiswill intimidate them into dropping their items.
  • Finish the Hold-Up: You can then get the loot and decide your next move. You can eitherknock them out, kill them, or simply leave them with their hands up, asthey will not move while you are close and still aiming at them.
  • Special and Unique Loot

The hold-up tactic is not just for getting standard ammo and food; it canalso be used to unlock unique rewards and achievements.

    • The End's Moss Camo: During the boss fight with The End, you can sneak up behind him andperform a hold-up. By aiming at his head or groin, you can force him todrop his Moss Camouflage. This item is a fantastic reward that gives you a 100% camouflage index when in a grassy area.
    • Boss-Specific Camo: This mechanic extends to most bosses. By defeating them non-lethally(using tranquilizer rounds or CQC takedowns), you can often get a unique camouflage that provides a special ability. For example, defeating TheFear non-lethally can reward you with the Spider Camouflage.
