MGS Delta Snake Eater: Escape the Prison Cell

Finding yourself captured and thrown into a cold, isolated cell is a defining moment in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. This classic series trope is recreated faithfully in the remake, but like in the original, the game offers little hand-holding. Being stuck in the Groznyj Grad prison can feel like a major roadblock, halting your mission in its tracks.
Fortunately, Naked Snake is far from helpless. There are multiple ingenious ways to secure your freedom, each requiring a different level of ingenuity. This comprehensive walkthrough will cover every known method to escape the prison cell, retrieve your gear, and continue your mission behind enemy lines.

Method 1: The Fake Death Pill (The Direct Approach)

This method is for players who paid close attention to the story. During the intense cutscene before your incarceration, The Boss secretly slips Snake two key items.
  • What to Do: Open your Cure Menu. You will find a Fake Death Pill and a Transmitter hidden within Snake’s wounds. Use the Fork tool to extract them.
  • How to Escape: Select and use the Fake Death Pill. Snake will convincingly play dead, prompting the guard to enter your cell to investigate. The moment the door opens and he steps inside, quickly use the Revival Pill from your menu. You will spring back to life, allowing you to subdue the guard with CQC and make your escape.

Method 2: The Secret Frequency (The Observer's Method)

For those with a keen eye, a hidden codec frequency provides a silent and clever way out.
  • How to Find It:
  • During the Interrogation Cutscene: As Volgin tortures you, quickly press R1/RB to zoom in. Behind the characters, the ghostly figure of The Sorrow will be visible holding a sign that reads 144.75.
  • By Antagonizing the Guard: When the guard brings you food, repeatedly throw the tray back at him. After doing this several times, a unique cutscene will trigger. Press R1/RB to enter first-person view and look at the photograph on the wall behind him; the number 144.75 is written on it.
  • How to Escape: Simply open your Codec radio and dial the frequency 144.75. The cell door will unlock automatically, granting you a clean and quiet exit.

Method 3: Induced Vomiting (The Unconventional Trick)

Perhaps the most bizarre yet effective method involves making Snake physically ill.

  • What to Do: Open your Cure Menu and simply spin Snake’s 3D model for about 30 seconds until he becomes visibly dizzy.
  • How to Escape: After closing the menu, Snake will vomit on the floor. The guard, concerned by the sound, will enter the cell to check on his prisoner. This is your chance to ambush him, take him out, and walk out a freeman.

Bonus: Unlocking the Guy Savage Minigame

This classic Easter egg from the original game makes a triumphant return. After saving your game by calling Para-Medic from inside your prisoncell, quit and restart your game. Instead of loading back into the cell, you will be transported to a secret, fully playable hack-and-slashnightmare sequence featuring Guy Savage. Completing this minigame will also return you to the main game, outside your cell.

What to Do After Your Escape

Your ingenuity has set you free, but the mission isn't over. You are nowdeep inside Groznyj Grad without your iconic equipment and gear. Thissection requires pure stealth.

  • Avoid Confrontation: You are unarmed and vulnerable. Your primary goal is to evade patrols, not engage them.
  • Find EVA: Navigate the corridors carefully. Your main objective is to regroupwith your contact, EVA. She has secured your gear, and you will bereunited with all your weapons and items shortly after finding her.

By mastering these escape methods, you’ll overcome one of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater’s most memorable challenges and be one step closer to completing your virtuous mission.
